SUMMARY OF SERVICE ACTIVITIES

While attending the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA I assisted in oral health care screenings of
preschool and kindergarten children at the Lincoln Unified School District registration event. At the same
event I spoke with the students and parents and educated them on the cavity process as well as preventive
home care techniques. I performed more oral hygiene counseling at the Health and Wellness Fair and the
Give Kids a Smile day.
On the dental mission trip to the Philippines, I traveled with one other Registered Dental Hygienists, Five
dentists and fifteen students that were attending the University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry.
We worked in two mobile clinic locations for a total of six days. We provided treatment to over one
thousand locals that have no other means of dental care. I performed gross-debridement therapy and
fluoride applications and assisted by administering local anesthetic.
Dentistry from the Heart is one or two days out of the year that our private practice office sets aside to
perform treatment at no cost to people in Turlock and the surrounding areas that cannot afford to pay for
their dental treatment. They can choose to line up for fillings, extractions, or cleanings, on most occasions
the person ends up getting more than one service done that day. I provide cleanings tailored to the persons
needs, usually gross-debridement and fluoride treatments. I also take x-rays at triage to direct patients to
the oral surgeons for extractions or to the doctors for fillings. We have served over eighty patients, and
that number grows each year that we do the event.
