What is Classroom Management?

Letters to the Parent/Guardian
Clear vision and high expectations
Clear procedures
Relationships and support
Engaging Instruction
Interventions and Re-directions

A. Classroom management is knowing as a teacher, how to be effective in a

variety of skills and techniques. Teachers need to be direct without being
mean. Classroom management is keeping students focused, organized on the
task at hand, engaged in the learning process and productive during class
time. Lack of management skills make less time for learning and stress and
frustration for both the student and teacher. Children in the primary grades
require a great deal of instruction, routine and practice in classroom rules and
procedures. Laughter in the classroom, at appropriate times, can help the
class. The layout and seating of students can assist with routine and
classroom management.
B. By presenting a Letter to the Parents at the open house or sending it out is
step 1 in making my classroom my own. I will include information such as
where I come from, my purpose and responsibilities as the teacher, and briefly
describe the procedures within the classroom.

C. Displaying a clear vision and having high expectations for myself, the
students, and their parents or guardian is very important to make sure we
are on the same page. Communication is key in any relationship that is built

whether it is with another educator, a childs parents, or your administration;

we are all striving to seek the best for their child. Having clear expectations
leads into having clear procedures and what kind of format Ill use within my
classroom.

D. Within my classroom I will be more than willing to explain to a parent or

administrator how I plan to begin and end my day, how to handle transitions
or interruptions, the process of group work and how I choose them, and
behaviors expectations. I would address the children as they walk in with a
good morning and smile. I will have basic and simple guidelines posted in the
classroom to show a visual if guests come and visit so they can also abide by
them. Each day is a new day and one cannot reprimand previous behaviors.
Displaying and having rules or guidelines in a classroom setting helps build
the community in a classroom.
E. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know our students, not only on an
academic, but personally and sociallyasking students about their interests
and what they do outside of class shows to the student the teacher actually
cares about them as a person. The more we know our students, we know
what curriculum and learning style works best for them to succeed. I will allow
and encourage my students as if they are my own to participate in class
discussions and interactions. No matter their past performance or their
perception of their abilities I wont talk down to the students or belittle them
in front of their peers because that leads to students losing trust and a safety
manner from the classroom which later could lead to upset from student and
guardian.

F. In all Common Core Standards, teachers must incorporate some type of

deeper thinking to evaluate a students comprehension of the material being
taught. Plus, it gives the teacher or educator how they can reflect on their
teaching in future years or with differentiated instruction. I will use several
styles such as hands-on (kinesthetic), auditory and visual. Also, using many
techniques in the classroom will assist the students in learning the material. I
have worked with children that seem to remember best when there is some
acting and humor. As there are students that learn at different levels, have
different backgrounds and learning styles. I will need to adapt the styles to the
students needs. By including students in the instructions and engaging them
it will hopefully build their confidence. Being clear, precise, using appropriate
gestures, expressions, moving around the room, and eye contact with the
whole class will assist in the communicating with the students. When
engaging with the instruction and how Ill teach the material may experience
some struggles with students becoming bored or parents/guardians are
frustrated as to how to assist their child with the homework or just work in
general. This could lead to how I will deal with different types of parents or
students.
G. As a teacher, there will be tough times whether with students, their guardians,
or other instructors during my profession. I plan to have a contract for both
the parents and students to sign at the beginning of the year in order for us to
be on the same page and to start a new year on a fresh note. The older I have
gotten the more I have become an active listener which is very important
when a parent or guardian comes in to visit about their childs progress.

Dealing with students behavior comes down to how consistent you are as a
teacher. Ive heard many stories of teachers that are not consistent and have
so many problems or difficulties with behavior. The foundation of a discipline
problem comes from the foundation that was built at the beginning of the
year. If it comes to handling a students discipline a teacher as I need to make
it a quick and private conversion because that relationship could break quickly
if you address the situation in front of the whole class.
As a teacher I like to think I am Superwoman and can do everything within the
classroom but I cant; Im human and as a teacher I am determined to have well
thought out management plan because with a classroom management plan
everything else will fall into place. All the material Ive learned Im more than ready
to use it in the workforce.
