1 Introduction
This report gives an outline of trends (2015) that could have been integrated into a website
to confirm that it is content driven, eye-catching and allows users to quickly get access to
the content presented on it. A website consists of groups of pages on the internet that are
linked to one entity, to provide fast and easily accessible information to the user about the
entity. Website trends are layouts of website pages which are currently in fashion and grab
the attention of its users that way. The initiative of this report is to identify 2015 trends that
can still be incorporated into websites for people to be able to connect with one another and
as companies use it as a service for business to become more competitive. Five trends will
be stated with their purpose and thereafter it will explore three existent examples of how it
can be applied by showing how companies incorporate the specific trends as part of their
website. This report initially discusses the split screen trend that are incorporated into
websites. It then analyses ghost buttons, thirdly, it will analyse the flat design trend.
Thereafter, it will discuss the impact of bold typography and lastly it will discuss the effective
video trend that have been brought across a new feel in 2015.

2 Website trends in 2015

2.1 Split Screen Trend
The purpose of split screen trends is a layout of the screen that can show two elements.
Split screen design help show two primary elements that are both important, in which the
user can select between them. The purpose of split screen trends is also because a
business wants to express an important duality (n.d. 2015). The split screen also the
business to express themselves and also a user can know more about them. Split screens
have a profound way of how the ampersands unify two sides. Split screens are gives twice
as much free ways to explore your creativity. Split screens are becoming extremely popular
and have rapidly become more popular in 2015. Split screen allows the user to view the
content that they would like to see first. Split screen also allows a company to present their
core strengths (McNeil, n.d.). Split Screens provide the reader the ability to view two pages
at the same time. This saves the time of the reader and ensures that the reader has a clear
interpretation of the content that is being presented. Split Screens are used as a visual guide
that conveys a clear message using different elements. It provides the reader with an
attractive visual appearance. This layout is very helpful to businesses as all businesses want
to promote two things which are of equal importance. The split enables readers to choose

from the two. A business may want to provide information on the product/service on the one
side or may want to include examples of the product/services on the one

2.1.1Three examples
Three Examples will be discussed showing how the various companies have incorporated
the trends into their website. The first example would be Stonewood construction, on their
website they provide users to use the split screen trend in which they have their projects on
the left side and types of construction they deal with daily on the right side. Second example
is Desktime, where they used the split screen trend and divided the homepage in two in
which they gratify the needs of the people that have an office and people that are looking for
a new office. The third and last example would be Eight & Four a digital marketing company
in which their homepage is used to express sequence and features that are all present in the
company.

2.2 Ghost Button Trend

A ghost button trend is produced a basic flat shape square, rectangle, diamond with no
fill and a simple outline. The ghost button is easy to create and also a very easy way that
one can be creative. The purpose of the ghost button trend is to design an important action
without being conspicuous. Ghost buttons has a simple set of components i.e. it contains
simple text, the buttons are hallow and then its enclosed by an outline, often only a few of
points thick. Ghost buttons has a natural look and feel which makes the major design of the
page stand out more. Ghost buttons add to a design style that looks chic. Easy is often
elegant when it comes to design. Ghost buttons are everywhere right now and it has also
been a staple of modern web design that is becoming highly popular (Carrie Cousins, 2014).

2.2.1Three examples
Three Examples will be discussed showing how the various companies have incorporated
the trends into their website. The first example would be Poralax which is an online service
that provides companies and organizations with digital service. They help customers gain
status in the online world. Their home page uses the button feature by hovering over the
icon, it slightly decreases it opacity. The second example would be Create Conquer. The
website makes use of black and white colors in which their ghost buttons are the same

colors. Depending on the background, some of the borders would be black and some of the
texts are black and white. The third and last example would be Audrey & Azoura which is a
furniture and interior design website. They make use of the ghost button trend by using a
color palette that compliments the theme.

2.3 Flat Design Trend

The Flat Design trend is a minimalistic approach that emphasizes usability (Creative Bloq,
2014) as oppose to the flashy illustrations and animations that many different websites use.
The design usually has open spaces, clean edges, bright colors and 2-D illustrations. Some
key features of a flat design trend is that it is simple, quick to grasp user friendly and
functional. The purpose of the flat trend is that the design reverts back to basic web
designing and it being a functional tool. A website is judged by how well it works as opposed
to how good it looks. Flat describes the way the content on the website page is displayed,
being without any three-dimensional drawing techniques such as shadowing. Advantages of
this design would be that the user is able to remain attentive to the important aspects of the
website, as well as creating a user-friendly environment for the user.

2.3.1Three examples
Three Examples will be discussed showing how the various companies have incorporated
the trends into their website. Examples include Windows 8 from Microsoft: Microsoft is the
first to apply this design to its interface to illustrate its simplicity. The second example would
be Kickdrop (http://kickdropshop.com/) that uses the simplicity to emphasize the various
pictures. The last example would be CANU (http://bear.canu.se/#). This company uses
pictures that are transformed into two dimensional images to attract the users eye to focus
on the content and images at the same time.

2.4 Bold Typography trend

Bold Typography is a great way to make your web design look better than ever (Cool
Homepages, 2012). The lines, the shapes and empty spaces between the letters - if put
together- makes the design magnificent. In the sense of Web-design, typography refers to
the way in which different typefaces communicate information. The typefaces are the
different fonts used in websites or letters. Typography uses white spacing around the
typefaces to create a whole design such as kerning, tracking, leading, alignment, windows,
orphans and ligatures. It impacts the readability of a user tremendously with its Visual

component that allows your information to be simple and attractive. The typography is a very
important and strong attribute when designing a website, since the bulk of the content is
reading. Key features of this trend include being very attractive, having a unique style, eye
grabbing, easy to read. The purpose of using this trend is that this design trend gives your
website its own personality, style and vibe

2.4.1Three Examples
Three Examples will be discussed showing how the various companies have incorporated
the trends into their website. An example would be Tiny Giant website webpage. The large
font and words create an attractive moment which one reads and remembers as the words
stay in ones mind. This enhances the page as its the first thing that attracts the users
attention. The second example would be Wistia (http://wistia.com/). This site has a clean
look and feel to it as user focuses on the content of the website. The last example would be
Cell C website which is best known for its typography especially for the colours and fonts
and sizes it presents its typography. It brings the message across clearly.

2.5 Video background

Recent statistics have shown ever increasing numbers of online video consumption, and this
is a testimony to the impact that the trend will have on the viability of the business
implementing it.One of the most common used but effective trend that always grabs users
attentions is the video background as it allows companies or any enterprises to use visuals
and motions on the back side of their website. This approach makes it easier for any
company or business to communicate any envisioned message or objective of the company
or business to the user visiting their various websites or website pages. This trend can be
used as an advantage as any company will be able to portray their creative abilities to make
the website look more interesting, attractive and creative.

Three Examples will be discussed showing how the various companies have incorporated
the trends into their website. Examples of businesses that incorporate this trend into their
website would be MediaBoom (http://mediaboom.com/). This is an advertising company that
has an old vintage modern look creating a 1970 old fashioned black and white look, with a

very eye and mind chilling video. This allows users to be able to relate themselves to this
experience. The slow movement keeps the users attention illustrating that they will always
be willing to assist the user even in their busiest times. The second example would be Eagle
Clean (http://eagleclean.co.uk/). This is a spring-cleaning service using illustrations to
express the purpose of their company. Their website illustrates this by showing an illustrated
movement video of a hand in gloves cleaning the screen grabbing the attention of the user
immediately as the message gets portrayed directly without too much focusing on reading
what

they

offer.
