Genre 1: Girls and Videogames, by IreneMartini

Genre 2: Shirts vs. Skins: Clothing as an Indicator of Gender Role Stereotyping in
Video Games, by Berrin Beasley and Tracy Collins Standley , it a research paper.
1. Why did you select these genres?
I think that the fact that they are so different between one another is the reason I
chose these genres.

2. What characteristics make them different genres from one another?


First of all one relies heavily in the use of the written word, whilst the other almost
completely disregards it. Theres also that they have different intended audience
and use a totally different kind of language.

3. Briefly explain how they communicate about your subject/topic.


Both discuss how womens clothing is usually over sexualized in videogames,
however one of them (research paper) goes more into proving this is true while the
other prompts the viewer to think about this topic.

The intended audiences for this comic
are gamers. The content is geared
towards female gamers but male
gamers should also be able understand
and relate the content. It is also
directed to women in general as it
touches the subject of women being
over sexualized.

The audience already knows that
characters come or get certain pieces
of armors and that these armors differ if
picked by a male or female. They need
to know that the difference is somewhat
ridiculous.

Persuade that differences in men and
female clothing in videogames are
ridiculous and Entertain.

The vocabulary is very informal, and a

It involves quite a bit of features like
the font choosing, the colors chosen,
the image itself, and the implied
message.

It does quite a bad job establishing
credibility, but it tries to do so by
relating ith what others felt during the
scene depicted by the comic.

There is no attempt at all to support the
information, it is assumed the viewer
will understand by the context they

commenting on those differences.

There is a limitation due to not being
able to use a lot of words to explain
oneself. However, it provides an
advantage towards others genres as it
can depict the exact differences
between those genres.

It facilitates its purpose because as the
author gives their reaction, the viewer
gets the joke and is entertained and is
also prompted to consider the topic.

can often be stereotyped

the topic, it proceed to explain the
method by which the experiment was
conducted and then show the results of
the experiments. It then ends with a
short conclusion on the whole study.

There are limitations since it lacked a
bit of visual support on the claims that
were sustained.

It facilitates its purpose because it
makes it easier to understand how the
researchers came to their conclusions.
