Because students arent standardized!

CURRICULAR PATHWAYS
in the ARTS:
MUSIC

Music education opens doors that help children

pass from school into the world around them a
world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and
human involvement. The future of our nation
depends on providing our children with a
complete education that includes music.
President Gerald Ford
Music is about communication, creativity, and
cooperation, and by studying music in schools,
students have the opportunity to build on these
skills, enrich their lives, and experience the world
from a new perspective. President Bill Clinton
"The future belongs to young people with an
education and the imagination to
create." President Barack Obama

About Music Education:

By participation in a well established music program that clearly foster an appreciation for music, children will reap the benefits of improved academic performance,
awakened creativity, heightened self-esteem, and an overall sense of accomplishment.
Study after study proves that regardless of socioeconomic background, music-making students do better in school than those who have no music involvement.
Whether it is improved spatial-temporal reasoning, which is integral to math, or repetition of tunes and melodies, which is integral to verbal memory, learning,
playing and creating music benefits children in a myriad of ways. A study of 7,500 university students revealed that music majors scored the highest reading scores
among all majors including English, biology, chemistry and math. Middle school and high school students who participated in instrumental music performances
scored significantly higher than their non-band peers in standardized tests.
Arts education aids students in skills needed in the workplace: flexibility, the ability to solve problems and communicate, the ability to learn new skills, to be creative
and innovative, and to strive for excellence.

Music has the power of producing a certain effect on the moral character of the soul, and if it has the power
to do this, it is clear that the young must be directed to music and must be educated in it. - Aristotle
Therefore, the study of music is recommended for ALL students regardless of their subject area interests. The profound effect of musical studies on the
lives and careers of presidents, scientists, doctors, actors, athletes, have been well documented and continue to enrich their lives.
