What is PATH Upward Bound


Math & Science Program?
Introspect Youth Services, Inc., PATH
(Pursuing Academic Through High
School) Upward Bound Math and Science
Program is a precollege academic support
Program funded by the U. S. Department of
Education. The program engages high
school students in grades 9 through 12 who
are potentially first-generation (either adopted
or natural parents having obtained a
bachelors degree) college students from
low-income families in activities and services
designed to help them realize their potential to
excel in Mathematics and Science. Students
are encouraged to participate in various Science
and Mathematic events to increase their
motivation to pursue post-secondary
studies in science, technology engineering or
mathematics.

Program Components
PATH is a year-around program which encompasses
Two (2) distinct components, an academic year, and
a summer session. The Academic Year Component
operates concurrent with the school academic year.
The Summer Component operates for six weeks (6)
during summer.

Participants engage in research by involvement


in interest groups that are led by volunteer
mentors. Those groups include:

Digital Music Making/Remixing
Video Gaming/Interactive Design
Design/Production
3D Modeling/Renderings
Solar Power/Wind Energy
Forestry/Ecology
Space Exploration
Extreme Weather
Crime Scene Investigation
Medical Innovations
Under the Sea
Biometrics
Forensics

Have a six (6) week Summer


Session in which they attend
classes, STEM Seminars
and Cultural Activities.

Have Summer Instructions in


Mathematics and Science.

Participants are engaged in one period of


Math and one period of Science each day.
Mathematics Courses are designed to
strengthen participants skills in high school
algebra, geometry, trigonometry and
calculus. Science courses are designed to
expand participants knowledge in Biology,
Chemistry and Physics.

Student Requirement
Full time High School Student attending
Austin Campus Schools, Frederick Douglass
or Michele Clark High Schools enrolled
in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade, whom have
an interest in Math or Science. We can
accept rising 9th graders involved in the
Summer Bridge Program. However,
students must enter the program, prior to
their Senior Year.
