Sequence of learning experiences:

Setup toy store sections with prompts/props prior to lesson
WARM UP
Advise students we are going to be moving around today like toys. Need to be respectful
of other peoples personal space and move safely maybe within an arms stretch. Cindy
Discuss with students, sounds, actions and facial expressions toy trains, cowboys or
girls may make. Play videos of trains and cowboys for 30 secs each and students
improvise and move in the role of each toy.
BODY
Show the video of Als Toy Barn - 40 seconds. Steph

Explain we are going to visit different aisles of Als Toy Barn (Wipeout music in
background). Students to think of a toy, not necessarily from Toy Story 2
Point out sections of toy store set up in the room. Props here are prompts only. Explain
students are to move to an aisle (props) and act like their chosen toy would act while the
Wipeout music plays speaking and moving like the toy. Teachers to demonstrate if the
toy has no hands, how would the toy pick up something in the aisle, how would they
paint in the art and craft aisle? When the music stops, students are to listen for
instructions and then move to the next aisle and move and speak like their toy would act
in that aisle.
Teachers to move around aisle and ask students what toy they have chosen, and how
will the toy move, speak or act in that section.
30 seconds in each aisle
Sections to include sport, beach, Lego, art, music

WIND DOWN
Quieten the toy down with stretches Steph
Students to complete smiley face feedback sheet for reflection and return to Cindy and
Steph. Cindy to explain feedback sheet with questioning as she explains.

Reflection/Evaluation:
This lesson did not go as well as we had hoped, we found that a lot of the
students struggled with the concept of bring their own toy to life, also
they were more concerned about using the props that were available.
When discussing the lesson with the teacher we found out that the
students have done very little drama and that this class/year level
struggles with imaginative play. Therefore next lesson we will aim to focus
on something that they students know quite well and we will incorporate
drama, basic drama elements with visual aids to assist all students.
Throughout the lesson one-on-one discussions with students and also
observations were noted and this showed how many students had
struggled with our idea of bring your favourite toy to life.
