Tutorials (Academic Advising)

(Sep 21st 25th 2014)

Assessing the teaching and learning process was my target for this
week which gave me more experience. Face to face conversations help
both teacher and learners to give feedback on the learning and
teaching process because teacher can assess learners as individuals
not as a whole class.
In fact, my mentor and I agreed to do the tutorials to have a whole
picture of what happed during the week. The process was to sit with
two students to check their homework and assess their learning. I think
it was a fundamental way to use as students reacted in a way that
showed their understanding level and what additional work they
needed. Furthermore, it is a useful tool because learners need the
opportunity to give and deliver feedback on their learning process to
achieve more development. Also, to give learners the feeling being
responsible to their learning and that there is someone who cares
about their learning.
After applying the tutorials, my mentor and I were able to know that
learners needed more work on using the simple present especially for
the third person. In addition, when we checked their homework, most
of the students did not complete the assigned tasks. As a result, my
mentor decided to assign group teams, so she will be able to make
sure that learners work on their activities. Moreover, to help learners
having a clear understanding of using simple present tense, my mentor
decided to create more activities and explain it more.
Developing a quick quiz about the simple present was another helpful
way within the tutorials as I asked them to describe the pictures using
the simple present. Most of the students were able to create sentence
using the simple present with less mistakes. Finally, I have found

tutorials a very effective way because it makes things more clear and
help both teachers and learners to decide at which level they are.
