INTERREG EUROPE project proposal

From behalf of Riga Technical University we like to invite you to be a part of joint INTERREG
EUROPE project proposal. Aim of the project is improve the implementation of regional
development policies and programmes, in particular programmes for Innovations, Investment
for Growth and Jobs. Length of the project is foreseen to be 24 months deadline to submit the
project is 31th of July. Project aims to focus on EU countries, which are trailing in terms of
innovation (EU Innovation Scoreboard) by building their capacity with the help of most
advanced EU countries in terms of Innovation. Countries ranked as Modest Innovators:
Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria would exchange experiences with countries ranked as
Innovation leaders: Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
Lead partner of the project proposal is Riga Technical University and project partners are
spread in two main groups Policy planners and practitioners. Practitioners include
universities, non-government associations and R&D centers. Policy planners include city
municipalities and government bodies.
Project foresees set of activities, which will contribute to capacity building of 3 least
innovating countries, regional development of capital cities, upscale of innovation and
tackling unemployment with high added value job positions:

Study trips to Sweden, Denmark and Germany


Regional Innovation reports (based on EU Regional Innovation Monitor)
Develop smart specialization concept for capital cities of Latvia, Rumania and Bulgaria
Develop recommendation to country policy planners for rising the role of capitals as
innovation epicenters in Latvia, Romania, Bulgaria
Establishing round table discussions between Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Latvia,
Bulgaria, Romania to elaborate on state of art and possible solutions for joint sectors
IT, Green energy, Social Innovations
Developing roadmap for upscaling innovations in the capital cities of Latvia, Romania,
Bulgaria in order to leave modest innovators rank in EU scoreboard till 2020
Developing links between capital city municipalities and practitioners for mutual
cooperation

Preliminary budget calculations: 1 000 000 EUR
