6Rs Editing Checklist for Written Work

Learning intention: I can proofread


and edit my writing.
Success criteria (how I will reach
my goal):
I reread my work at different
times (check as writing, check
after first drafts and after
second drafts)
Check my words make sense
I write neatly
I punctuate my sentences and
paragraphs correctly:
oCapital letters for proper nouns
oCommas in appropriate places
I check my spelling is correct:
o I used a dictionary to find words I
cant spell
oI use phonics and syllables to
sound out new words Im spelling

oI use my eyes to see if the word


looks right
o I can use homophones in the
correct context
oI think about other words that
sound the same to spell unusually
written words or words with silent
letters
oI think about the etymology of
words .e.g. un meaning come
together in unite/union
oI apply spelling and grammar
rules, e.g. changing nouns ending
in f into plural leaf becomes
leaves
I check my grammar is correct:
o I have phrased my words
correctly
o I am consistent in my use of
tenses (past, present, future)
o I use the correct words with
plurals, e.g. I bought my children

gifts for their birthdays last


year.

paragraphs.
Use clever, sophisticated
language and relevant topic
words.
