Lesson Plan 3- Fitness

Unit: Health and Physical Education

Curriculum Outcomes (SA):

knowledge of and skills for healthy
dietary practice. They research and
critically analyse information,
including online, on food choice, and
identify the influence of peers and
the media on nutritional choices.

Students are
encouraged to
remember what they
have been taught in
their previous years of
schooling. Students are
reassured that they will
not be assessed on
their answers.

Students are told that they are

required to answer the
questions individually and then
the questions will be discussed
in the classroom environment
(to initiate discussion amongst
peers).

Main Content

Teaching Approaches

Students are each provided

with a work sheet and are
asked to complete the
questions individually,
answering them with as much
information as possible.
Students are advised they have
twenty minutes to complete
this task.

Teaching Approaches

Question include:
1. What do you class as
healthy foods? Why
is it important to eat
them?
2. What do you
consider unhealthy
foods? Should they
be eaten every day?
3. How many serves of
vegetables and
fruits should you eat
per day?
4. Name the five food
groups.
5. What is your
favourite meal? List
as many ingredients
as you can and

individually answered, the
question is discussed and the

eating chart and exercise
recommendations.
Conclusion

include whether you

think they are
healthy foods or junk
foods.
6. What does fitness
mean to you?
7. Why do you think it
is important for you
to be fit and active?
8. What are some
activities you could
do on your own to
be active?
9. What are some
activities you could
do with your friends
and family to be
active?
10. How many hours
per day do you think
you should be
physically active for?
The teacher
encourages students to
interact with each other
and add to each
students answers. The
aim of using this
technique is to allow
children to give their
own opinions and ideas.
This is beneficial as
then students can take
each others ideas on
board and develop their
own.

Teaching Approaches

5060

Students are encouraged to

remember the content they
have learnt and what fitness
means to them. They are
encouraged to discuss this
information at home and
incorporate healthy eating and
fitness into their home lives.

By encouraging
students to talk to their
families about this
topic, hopefully
awareness is created
and conversations are
initiated benefiting
students and their
families.
