TaskAnalysis

A. The authors identify three methods for analyzing content and task, the first of
which is Topic Analysis. Briefly describe Topic Analysis then describe how it
might apply specifically to your instructional design project topic.
Topic Analysis is the first method of analyzing the task. The topic analysis is used to
define the facts, concepts, principles, and rules that will make up the final instruction
(Designing Effective Instruction). It serves as the framework for the content and helps
in outlining the main points and goals of the lesson. It also helps to clarify the
structure and what steps learners will take to complete the task.
This method can be applied on my topic helping high school students to effectively
use Google Docs in doing assignments, because through analyzing the topic content
I can have clear view of the facts that I am going to teach like Tech terms, the
concepts that allows me to categorize information and gather them as needed for the
lesson, the principles and rules like connecting the introduction on the high
importance of Google Docs and the steps they will learn to benefit from this tool.
Then the procedures come which is important for this task. Finally the interpersonal
skills and the attitude that involve learners ability to communicate and well behave
as needed through the task.

B. The second method for analyzing content and task is Procedural Analysis. Briefly
describe Procedural Analysis then describe how it might apply specifically to your
instructional design project topic.
Procedural analysis fits the lesson that involves steps to complete a task. I think this
method works perfectly with my topic. My topic concentration is on having learners
go through steps to complete and learn how to perform a task. Using this method will
help me put information in logical order for best performance after I collect the
needed data.

C. The third method for analyzing content and task is Critical Incident Analysis.
Briefly describe Critical Incident Analysis then describe how it might apply
specifically to your instructional design project topic.
Critical Incident analysis is the third type of task analysis and it is mainly for tasks
that involve interpersonal skills and attitude. For me I would not rather use this
method in my instruction design. I consider this method to be good for social or art
instructional content. Interpersonal skills and attitude are not mainly targeted in my
case.

D. Describe the importance of the Subject Matter Expert in the Task Analysis
process.
The SME works as a reference and source of the information for the ID. He/she
would be an expert in his/her field of knowledge and will provide the ID with the
accurate needed information to complete a task. Both the ID and the SME work along
to create the appropriate instruction. In my case I will use my background in my topic
as well as using other tutorial and tech support websites. That would work as SME for
me and I will give credit to each site I will use.
