Entry 3: Differentiating Instruction through Technology

Introduction (4-6 sentences)
Through the use of technology one can easily differentiate normal instructions in a positive
way. A written paper of instructions can be extremely simple to read, but at times can leave bits
out. So through the use of technology this can be altered to add more useful information, or add
things to add better details for the reader. As a teacher it is crucial for a teacher to be as
descriptive as possible to really influence the student in a positive way. Some students tend to not

understand by simply reading, so this can easily help them by adding recording made with
technology. In this paper it will go in depth on how technology can improve instructions for
students, or make it easier for those that are auditory learners.
Technology to Differentiate Instruction (300-400 words)
(Jing): Teachers often tend to have to repeat themselves, or give bad grades because students do
not listen. Through the use of Jing, it helps eliminate this by creating little tools to improve
instructions, or refresh the memories of students. Cengage Learning (2015) says, One
innovative approach to this problem is to create your own repository of "how to" videos or
instructions. Jing is a simple to use freeware program that allows you to capture screen shots or
record screen activities with a couple of clicks!(pg.92). It is difficult at times to always be there
for students when they are already home and struggle with their homework, so through the use of
Jing teachers can create a way more descriptive set of instructions, and add little hints or tips that
can help students. Just a small example of how free programs can help teachers and students
alike.
(Snagit): At times instructions are fine when written properly, but with the help of technology
they can be better than average. Through the use of Snagit a teacher can take a screenshot of a
source they have obtained online, and add little notes or arrows to add emphasis to the source. If
it is a math problem, a teacher can circle it and add little add-ons of their own knowledge, or
eliminate things that might throw off students. With this kind of power it makes online notes a lot
easier to cater to listens, and a lot easier for students to read little added on instructions put on by
the teacher. Cengage Learning (2015) says, Snagit is a screen capturing program that allows you
to capture a screen easily, and then edit and save it in a variety of file types, or simply copy and
paste it into your presentation. With this program, you are able to capture or gran any item on the

fly (pg.92). With this type of power at the teachers fingertips it makes homework a lot easier
for students to do at home, and have the freedom to look at multiple examples and notes acquired
and edited by the teacher.
(Teachertube): TeacherTube is like Youtube for teachers. It is a place where teachers can share
lessons, or compare instructions and notes with their own videos. There is also room for teachers
to comment on the video, or even leave positive feedback that can help teachers improve their
videos. Through the use of these videos teachers can link them to help support lessons, or maybe
even help students get a broader side of learning through different methods taught by other
teachers. Every student read instructions the same, but some might not understand them the way
displayed by their teacher. Maybe another teachers video in TeacherTube can explain it better,
thus creating a more productive and helpful experience with the student. Cengage Learning
(2015) says, TeacherTube, a website that is gaining popularity with educators and many others.
This Web site is a community-building Web site like YouTube but created for educator (pg.89).
Through the use of this site it makes it a lot easier for a teacher to simply add a link to their
instructions to a video that is either similar or explains it in a different method, but still applies to
the lesson at hand. With this it helps students that are auditory learners get a sharper edge, or
even focus in a better manner.
Pros and Cons (150-250 words)
Pros are that it is easy for a student to get a better understanding of instructions by them
being a bit altered through the use of technology. Things like video recording, or audio recording
make it possible for auditory students to learn in a better manner, or maybe just add more depth
to instructions. With these tools added to assignments it makes students that are a little difficult

to deal with in class, easier to deal with. Some students get easily carried away by their friends,
so having these recording or videos makes they not miss out on instructions, although they did in
class. The cons can be that because of the recording or videos students tend to not listen to verbal
instructions given to the student during class. It can cause students to be a little disrespectful
because they are too dependent on these tools added through the use of technology. Although
teachers can use them a little bit less to avoid this. It is not too big of a problem, so pros defeat
cons here.
Concluding Paragraph (4-6 sentences)
In conclusion technology makes it easier for auditory learners to learn through the use of
technology being added to instructions during lessons, or even help those that are a little
distracted. It is a fact that some students tend to be a bit hyper when at a young age, or tend to get
distracted around friends, so it is best to use technology to help students not miss out so much on
instructions, by having these recording at home. It is hard for a lot of students to hold their
composure, so through the use of technology it is not as hard. Technology helps alter
instructions, while helping those that have a different learning curve while doing so.
