Pope Francis Speech

Pope Francis, in an address to a joint meeting of Congress, encouraged

lawmakers to work together to solve the problems of ordinary Americans and to
show compassion for people across the globe who are suffering from war, hunger
and the power badly exercised. He has called on the US to build a truly tolerant
and inclusive society that rejects discrimination and said that climate change is an
issue which can no longer be left to a future generation, where these issues will be
taken in the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the
World Summit, which as mentioned in the speech "is an Important sign of hope."
In his remarks, the pontiff called for the protection of religious liberty and
asked American Catholics to reject discrimination and help on the education and
family, which is the primary cell of any social development. He calls on Congress to
seek effective solutions rather than getting bogged down in discussions, as well as
the International Financial Agencies that should care for the sustainable
development of countries and should ensure that they are not subjected to
oppressive lending systems which, far from promoting progress, subject people to
mechanisms which generate greater poverty, exclusion and dependence.
In his first visit to the United States, the Pope Francis, seemed eager to
pass over his previous criticisms of a materialistic, capitalist culture and instead
reach out to the world's most powerful nation. He praised the country's devotion to
freedom of liberty and religion even as he cautioned that its vast resources
demanded a deep sense of moral responsibility. What strikes most is the things he

said in the speech, making conscience to all the audience and convincing them
about his arguments and at the same time touching their hearts but also their
minds, giving us good lessons: If we want true integral human development for all,
we must work tirelessly to avoid war between nations and between peoples.(Pope
Francis I,2015)
His message touched on some of the biggest political controversies of our
day, immigration and the migration crisis in Europe, the death penalty, abortion, the
arms trade, poverty and religious extremism, all to keep our common home
sound and safe for all of us living beings, but must also be built on the
understanding of a certain sacredness of created nature.
Pope Francis talked about all the world problems with clear examples (that
take place in the current time and in the past), He used several quotes, giving us
several perspectives, not only made by him, but by other important people, like his
predecessors, to demonstrate that he is not the only one seeking for peace and
goodness. He made some comparisons the environment and humans with the
creator, and rich with poor. Also made some calls to action to solve all the problems
happening all around the world, giving his support for the United Nations to make a
change and have a better life for all of us. All this leaves us a clear reality and to
not just be subjective, which makes us realize what has led us to where we are and
where we can reach if we continue in the same way without seek for a change.
That is why I consider all these points are excellent techniques to keep the
audience focused on his speech and implying better understanding on his
message.
