Lesson Focus: Movement Concepts of Basketball

Equipment and Facilities: 7 inflated basketballs, 41


colorful polly spots, and 16 colorful cones. The
blacktop will be used as the activity area for this
lesson.

Safety Considerations: The teacher will conduct the


activity in a quality learning environment. All
equipment used will be age appropriate and placed
in a safe manner to reduce the risk of any injuries.
Each student will be spaced out accordingly to help
prevent any conflict or injuries. The teacher will
verbally review the rules and expectations before the
start of the activity. Before the start of class, the
teacher will have knowledge of any health related
issues the students may have, which will be provided
by the school. If an emergency occur, the teacher will
remain calm while transporting the students to a safe
environment or shelter, based on the situation. If a
student is injured, the teacher will stop the activity
and have the students seated away from the injured
student while the teacher notifies the proper
authorities of the childs injuries. Each student will
be aware of the teachers signals (whistle). All
equipment will be placed on the ground/ floor while
the teacher is providing instructions and the students
hands will be placed on or above their heads.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: The activities will begin
Previously Learned Skills: Basketball dribbling,
and end on the teachers cue (whistle). Students will

be given two warnings before having to sit out


quietly on the green bench for not following
directions, misbehaving, or any behavior that is not
allowed in Tiger Pride. The student will sit out for the
remainder of the activity. If a fight occurs, an adult
supervisor will be called to detain the students who
were engaged in the altercation. The rest of the
students will be seated out the way of harm until the
situation has been resolved.
Teaching Strategy: I will start the lesson using the
command style teaching strategy. The instruction will
be provided by using an interactive approach and
verbal cues to assist the students in understanding
the techniques that will be used during the activities.

Objectives:

Academic Language: Defense. Offense, Dribble,


Bounce Pass, Chest Pass, and Turnover

Psychomotor (P): SWBAT execute a complete bounce pass and chest pass, after
demonstrating how to dribble the basketball with a defender in front of them with 70%
accuracy.
Cognitive (C): SWBAT acknowledge the COTS of the basketball pass, dribble, and defensive
stance 80% of the time
H-R Fitness (H): SWBAT remain actively engaged throughout the activity while increasing
their heart rates and reaching the goal of 50% MVPA during the activity 90% of the time.
Objectives contain: A (audience), B (behavior), C (condition), and D (degree)

Set Induction:
Today we will have a review of dribbling,
passing, catching, and we will learn
some defensive and offensive tactics.

Start/Stop Signals:

Purpose:
To make sure you understand and are
retaining the COTS of how to dribble,
pass, and catch a basketball. The purpose
of defense and offense is to learn
different tactics of how to score and how
to create a turnover.

Lesson Core 2 Baller in the Middle:


Students will practice previous learned
skills such as passing, catching, and
dribbling. They will also work on
defensive drills.
The two players standing on the outside
polly spots will be the offense player and
the player in the middle will be on
defense. Before the offensive player
passes the ball, they will have to dribble
the ball 3 times. You may make a bounce

Adaptations
Students what are having trouble making
a successful pass they can move a little
closer to their partner. If they are having
issues with catching a pass, I will modify
the game and only bounce passes will be
allowed. If the students are advanced
they will create more space between the
two making the passes more difficult to
complete.
Transition:
Students will pick up all equipment and
place it in the designated area and be
seated on the white base line, while
waiting for further instructions.

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES: While students are demonstrating their dribbling, passing, and defense COTS
within their groups, the teacher will assess the students techniques using a formal assessment. The group who
is spotted doing the technique correctly will be used as a demonstration.
