You will be given a piece of engraving plastic 173x32x1.5mm to engrave your name on.
First draw the label in AutoCAD. From the AutoCAD create the cutting program for the
CNC milling machine and then proceed to cut the job on the machine. Use the recipe
found in the file Label-Recipe.doc on the shared folder on the network.

WIRE CUT BOTTLE OPENER

Draw a fancy shaped key ring type bottle opener in AutoCAD. The bottle opener must fit
in a piece of stainless steel 80x30x5mm. Then use FeatureCAM to create the EDM wire
cut toolpath. After that cut you bottle opener on the CNC wire cut machine.

CNC TURN CHESS PIECE

Draw a chess piece in SolidWorks. Manually code the CNC Lathe cutting program for the
chess piece. Then cut the job on the CNC Lathe. The chess piece must fit into a piece of
aluminium 30x80mm long.

EDGECAM MILL 3D SHAPE

Each person will receive a block of aluminium 60x60x40mm to CNC mill a complex 3D
shape out of. The shape must have strong curves in the Z-direction making it impossible
to manually code the toolpaths for cutting the job on the CNC milling machine. Draw the
3D shape in SolidWorks. Generate the toolpaths in EdgeCAM and cut the job on the
CNC milling machine.

ROBIX ROBOT KIT

You will be issued a yellow toolbox, which is the full Robix kit for building a variety of
different configurations of robot. On the CD in the toolbox find the Project pdf file and do
as many of the projects you can during the full day of the practical. Each project consists
of building a robot configuration and then programming the robot movement on the
attached PC.

PORTFOLIO
Write up a portfolio of all the practical jobs that make up the rest of this course with a view
to showing prospective employers what they can do. Lots of pictures are required.
Marking is based purely on completeness. If all parts of all practical jobs given in picture
form together with one sentence on each, then 100% is scored. Use the format given in
the file Portfolio.doc on the shared folder on the network
