Language Arts 2 -Module 3 Narrative Overview

Big Picture: You will write a story inspired by the story Great North American Circus found in lesson 3.02.
Your Characters: Dan Clark and Kit Watson
Your Setting: The Circus

Requirements of your narrative:


(1) The events in your narrative must connect logically and reasonably to the events in the original story. (Ex. Kit
and Dan cannot change their mind and ride their bikes around town instead of going to the circus.)
(2) You may invent new characters if needed(you have creative freedom) but again, be sure
that your story connects reasonably to the original story.
(3) You must include a fully developed plot (beginning, middle, ending).
(4) Your characters must speak to one another dialogue is required!
(5) You must also include: sensory details, temporal transitions, vivid verbs

What to Submit
3.02 Narrative Organization Chart In this lesson, you will map out and plan your narrative.
3.03 Write your Introduction You will submit the introduction to your narrative of at least 75 words including a
hook (interesting quote or vivid description), an introduction to the main characters (Dan and Kit) and a description
of the setting (the circus).
3.04 What Did You Say? Quiz You will take a quiz over dialogue and tag lines (elements that should be included
in your narrative).
3.05 Body Portion You will submit the body paragraphs of your narrative including at least 300 words, 2
sensory descriptions, dialogue, 2 events in the rising action and a climax.
3.06 Pause for Commas Quiz You will take a quiz over how to correctly use commas.
3.07 Transitions/Revisions You will revise your narrative to include at least 5 temporal transitions and will mark
all transitions in the narrative with a (T).
3.08 Rough Draft You will submit the completed narrative (intro, body and resolution). The resolution should
include at least 5o words and conclude and reflect on what the protagonist learned or how they changed.
3.09 DBA Please schedule with your instructor.
3.10 Final Draft - Submit your polished final draft including a draft marked with a (V) for all replaced weak verbs.
You will also write and submit a reflection paragraph discussing the changes you made in the narrative.
