Sweater Weather
By Ryleigh R. & Paige R.
Fall is here! Fall continues the football and
volleyball season, the
new school year, warm
colors, delicious foods,
and all things cozy!
Could fall get any
better?
Carving pumpkins
and lighting candles:
these are things other
seasons cant handle.
Decorating your home
for fall can be a
wonderful task.
Leaves, pumpkins,
candles, and more can make your house match the
season. There are many cute DIYs (do it yourself)
that cost little to no money that can be found on
Pinterest and other sites. One can decorate their
house with spiders and ghosts during Halloween
along with turkeys for Thanksgiving. Fall is all
about the colors red, yellow, orange, brown, and
some green.
Along with decorating, people wear season
appropriate clothing. Fall fashion is all about being
warm and comfortable. Sweaters, jeans, boots and
hoodies are common fall wear. Some other fall
clothing is scarves and long sleeve shirts. Though
leggings and sweatpants are not allowed here in
Monroeville High School, they are a big fall trend
as well.
Caramel apples, pumpkin pie, fall is here, my oh
my! During fall, most people tend to eat soups and
drink hot drinks. People eat pumpkin pie, pumpkin
pastries, and pumpkin flavored drinks.
Thanksgiving, a holiday in fall, is all about giving
thanks and eating delicious food! On Thanksgiving,
most people eat turkey, stuffing, pies, cookies,
sweet potatoes, muffins, and stews.
Mrs. Wise was asked what her favorite thing to
do during fall is, she responded, I like to go to and

October 2, 2015
watch football games with my family during the
fall. She was also asked what her fall essentials
were and she answered, A good hoodie to keep me
warm. The last thing she was asked was what her
favorite fall food is and she said, I like a good slice
of pumpkin pie.
Taylor H. was asked the same questions and she
replied, I love drinking coffee! She also said that
she likes wearing sweaters and boots. She
answered what her favorite food was, I love
pumpkin rolls; they are my favorite!
Mrs. Harvey was also interviewed, and she
commented, I like to attend all of the fall events:
football games, Halloween events, festivals, and
pumpkin patches. Her fall essentials would be
coffee and a nice hoodie. My favorite fall food is
chili.
Happy fall y'all!
Valravn
By Trey L. & Conlin R.
Cedar Point has announced their new roller
coaster and it is called Valravn. The Valravn will
be available to public on opening day of 2016. The
Valravn is a mythical creature and the king of all
birds. Cedar Point is building this in hope they will
get more visitors. Cedar Point owns an empty lot
right next to the Blue Streak where the dive coaster,
which is a type of roller coaster, will be built.
The Valravn has an overwhelming amount of
cart features. The Valravn will feature the same
restraints as the Gatekeeper. The ride will fit 8
people per row and 24 in one train. Also, there are
3 sets of trains. This ride will be Cedar Point's 2nd
dangling feet coaster.

One may ask why people are so excited about

the Valravn, so here are a few facts. There are 3
inversions that take one through them at 73 MPH.
The track will have a corkscrew built in it. The
color of the track will be caramel brown with blue
supports. In addition, the first hill will have a slow
climb to the top. Once a person reaches the top, the
ride will pause and have people staring at the
ground. Then when one least expects it, the ride
will plummet down and people are now flying down
hill.
It will have a 90-degree drop, and a 165 feet tall
immelmann (Reverses directions by doing a half
loop). The ride will have a 131 feet tall second hill,
dive loop, 270-degree roll, and an airtime hill. The
items listed above are major features of the track.
This ride will be SUPERNATURAL!

Apple iOS 9 Update
By Mirena M. & Cam H.
On September 16, 2015, Apple came out with
the iOS 9 update. It is going to make improvements
from the previous updates they have made. Apple
keeps making new versions of the iOS so their
devices can keep improving. Siri, an intelligent

assistant for most products, can do more such as

answer more questions. They also made
improvements at the foundation of the operating
system enhanced performance, battery life, and
security. The security was improved because the
default passcode was four digits and it is now six
digits. So, instead of there being 10,000 possible
combinations there are now 1,000,000 possible
combinations.
The battery life lasts over an hour longer than
before the update. Apple also added a battery

saving mode so your battery will last longer. Siri

can answer more questions and help with more
questions you may ask. They have many new apps
including the News app that shows the newspaper
from that day. They also updated the Notes app
they now have a checklist to keep your notes more
organized, one can even put pictures, maps, and
web links. You can even add notes from when you
are in different apps. The app Maps was also
updated and you can now find public transportation.
They came out with another new app called the
Wallet app. The app helps you with paying, but
you can only pay with it if the store has Apple pay.
On the IPad they added that you could go on two
apps at once. Specifically, most Apple devices you
can clear the apps faster with clearing more than
one at one time.
After interviewing two students about the iOS 9
update, they were asked, What do you think of the
update? and Do you think the update was
useful? Adrian B. stated, The way you clear the
apps is better, other than that the update is
pointless. Adrian B. told us, No, I dont think
the update was useful because they didnt make
many improvements that were actually useful.
Then Clay K. answered the same questions he
said, The update is okay but the basic iOS is
better. Clay K. responded, The update is only
useful depending on what youre doing.
What would you rate the iOS 9 update? Id give
it a 9.
Referee De-whistled
By Brad K. & Ricky R.
Recently in Antonio, TX, high school football
referee Robert Watts (Bottom Left) was assaulted
by sophomore linebacker Victor Rojas (Top Right)
and then was jumped on by senior defensive back
Michael Moreno (Bottom Right).

The assistant coach allegedly said, This guy

needs to pay for cheating us. He said this right
before the hit on Watts. The coach, Mack Breed
has been placed on administrative leave. Victor
Rojas was ejected from the game, as for Michael
Moreno he continued to play, because the referee
kicked out the wrong player. The other coach
eventually spoke up and Michael was kicked out of
the game and both were suspended indefinitely for
the season and were suspended from school. The
referee was taken to the E.R right after the assault
happened. Nothing has been released about the
symptoms or injuries he is experiencing. Besides
the statement from Watt's friend who claimed that
Watts moaned of a headache during a phone call on
Sunday.
The following question was asked to Mr. Nester.
What would you have done if one of your players
did this? He responded, They probably would not
play for the rest of their high school career.
Braden B. was interviewed about, what he would
have done if a referee was unfair to him? He
responded, I would have grabbed his whistle and
threw it. He was also asked, what he would have
done if he was the referee? He thought and
responded, I would have suspended him from
football for life.

Flash Flood
By Aidan S. & Isaiah S.
Around Southern Utah a horrifying flash flood
had occurred. While people were evacuating, 20
were killed and 1 child remains missing. Most of
the people dead came from a vehicle carrying 3
women and 13 children that were swept away.

Three kids survived and 1 is still missing. Also, 12

of those deaths came from the same town. The age
of the children that died ranged from 4-11 years old.
In addition, the flood started on September 14,
2015.
The Utah division of Emergency Management
said, The flash flooding was caused by heavy rain
around 5:00 p.m., that was local time in Hildale,
Utah. Therefore, authorities said, that around 150
people from county, state and federal agencies, 500
community volunteers, and 6 or 7 search dogs are
working at a search, and rescue effort in Hildale.
They have also, mobilized the National Guard, and
they have arrived September 22. According to
NWS in Salt Lake City, the deadliest flash flood on
record in Utah prior to the event was on August 13,
1923 near Farmington, claiming 7 lives.
Although, people have bit the dust, and we hope
they can regroup and fix their town.
To be Blue or Not to Be?
By Alexis G, Isabella G, Sydney M.
Have you ever been sad and saw different
colors? New studies show that moods can change
how you perceive color. Scientists have always had
a theory about this, but it wasnt proven until a
recent experiment was conducted. This experiment
included two groups, one sad, and one happy. The
sad group watched a depressing clip from the
movie The Lion King while the happy group
watched a comedy skit. The results were gratifying.
When shown colors on the yellow-blue spectrum,
members of the sad group had a hard time telling
the difference between shades. The same group
was shown colors on the red-green axis and had no
problem seeing the different tones. After watching
the comedy skit, the happy group was shown the
same pallets and had no problems identifying
colors.
Dopamine is a chemical that sends messages to
the brain. This is important in mood disorders such
as depression and ADHD, but may also affect how
we see color.
When asked if she thinks that this theory is true,
Mrs. Wise replied, It could be true, though, Ive
never heard of it before. I think that moods

definitely affect your health, and stress levels

contribute too. She was also asked if she notices
other shades of colors when in different moods.
Her answer was, I cant say Ive ever really paid
attention. It probably varies from person to
person, was her reply when asked how often she
thinks people are sad.
Next interviewed was Piper H. was asked the
same questions, and she did think that this was true
and she does notice the different colors sometimes.
She then stated, like, a lot when asked how many
times she thinks people are sad.
Being blue or seeing blue?

California is Thirsty
By Lauren J. & Ethan D.
California has been dealing with major droughts
for four years, but this year's drought has been the
worst of them all. Californias water percentage
dropped 31.3%. Folks that live in California are
only allowed to use a certain amount of water a day
due to the low water percentage. Since they are
facing one of their most severe droughts, California
folks may not overuse the certain amount of water
they are permitted. If the water limit is overused,

one has to pay a $500 fine. The CDWR (California

Department of Water Resources) has two new
programs that will replace inefficient toilets and tear
up water-guzzling lawns, which will be saving
water. The turf program is estimated to benefit
more than 10,000 homes with new lawns. The
toilet replacement program will replace about
60,000 old toilets and will give the customers a
$100 rebate to upgrade the toilets to one that is
more water efficient. The state plans on putting $30
million into rebates for both programs.
The drought hasn't only made a water problem,
but it has made a problem with putting people in
risk. There has been a record, $243 million put into
fighting wildfires this year, and will still continue to
put more money into fighting wildfires. The
drought has started many wildfires and has put
many people, animals, and homes at risk. The
death toll had risen to 5 deaths due to the wildfires,
and is still continuing to put people in danger.
Below are the numbers of acres and homes
destroyed from wildfires:
Valley Fire: 73,700 acres burned; 585
homes destroyed; 7,473 structures
threatened; 3 killed

Butte Fire: 70,760 acres burned; 503 homes

destroyed; 6,400 structures threatened; 2
killed

Rough Fire: 141,491 acres burned

Two major fires have destroyed more than 800

homes, but the fire has been diminished in cooler
weather. The risk of fires has decreased because of
a recent rain shower and cooler weather.
Will California ever beat the drought?
Deer Season
By Isaac C. & Layne Z.
What is big and brown and runs like a deer?
Ohio deer season is here. It started September 26th,
and ending February 7th, all hunters can take the
trek to their local tree stands and ground blinds.
Hunters can hunt half an hour before to a half an
hour after sunrise/sunset. Gun hunters can hunt

from November 30th to December 6th and on

December 28th and 29th, which also includes straight
walled rifles ranging from a .357 magnum to a .500

Can you find the hunter?

Smith & Wesson.
Muzzleloader season runs from January 9th-12th
any bore size over .38 caliper is legal. Last year's
deer kill was down 17,000 deer from the previous
years. There has been a drop in kill due to the
reduced bag limit, which is how many deer you can
harvest. In most of the state's counties, hunters used
to be allowed 6 deer: 1 buck, 5 does. Now hunters
are allowed only 3 in most of the counties in Ohio.
The reason for the bag limit change is due to
Chronic Wasting Disease. CWD is an extreme
diarrhea disease that makes the deer dehydrated.
When a herd is over-populated it is very easy to
spread the disease.
When we asked Landon B. what he was doing to
get ready, he stated that he, Had already baited, set
two stands, and is hunting with a crossbow and
shotgun, and is chasing a trophy buck.
A Deer is a four legged North American.

Seed Banks
By Gavin H. and Zach S.
The crop population could be in trouble. If the
plant diseases would ever happen the world has
billions of seeds in storage. The seed bank is a
place where they keep plant and animal genes.

There are many seed banks in the world like

Chicago, Taiwan, Louisiana, Columbia, and many
more.
Most seed banks are inside the mountains for
protection. They also have underground seed
banks. They use the mountains for protection
because they need security in case an intruder or an
attack. They have seed banks so if the crops die or
animal populations drop the scientist can feed more
animals, or farmers can replant plants and crops.
Millennium Seed bank partnership keeps 10% of
the worlds wildlife species at their location in
Wakehurst, England. There are roughly 100,000
global plant varieties that are endangered in the
world. Svalbard Global Seed Vault can hold up to
2.25 billion seeds in total. Seeds that are very rare
now have been put in the seed banks, not whole
plants because the seeds are easier to handle. The
way they store these plants is by name of plant and
they have many jars of plant seeds so they also do it
by number.
Do you seed us needing this in the future?

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus
By Hunter A. & Bobby K.
The new iPhone 6s came out on Friday,
September 25, 2015. It has new features, such as a
new color Rose Gold (It is a mix between gold and
a pinkish red). It now has a stronger aluminum
alloy back and a new specially formulated screen to
help protect it if it falls. Also, if one gets the
iPhone 6s Plus it allows one to have a landscape
view if they are on the homepage or on a different
app.
The 6s costs around $649 for a 16GB, $749 for a
64GB, $849 for a 128GB and for a 6s Plus the cost

is around $749 for a 16GB, $849 for a 64GB and

$949 for a 128GB, but some stores only make it $5
a month but you have to stay with that provider for
2 to 3 years. Apple included a new feature to this
new line of iPhones called 3D Touch. The iPhone
6s and 6s Plus now include a 12 megapixel camera
when the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus all have an 8
megapixel camera. The 12-megapixel camera helps
one to take more detailed pictures.
Apple consumers will be eager to take a bite of
this product!

China: Exploring The Dark Side of The Moon
By Layton H. & Samuel B.
(Mission to the Moon?!) China plans on
sending a spacecraft called Change-4 (Pronounced
Chungee) to the dark side of the Earths Moon.
They plan on launching this during 2018, but will
definitely have it launched before 2020 if no
difficulties arise. The Chinese are planning to do

this because they think a breakthrough in

knowledge about lunar and geological science is
necessary.
They have already deployed their first lunar
rover on the surface of the Moon called the Jade
Rabbit. It was launched December 1, 2013. The
original Jade Rabbit, a space probe, not a rover, was
sent to the Moon in the year 1976; 2 more space
probes that are retired have been launched since.
There are also many problems in this mission.
China wants to land in a difficult landing spot.
Also, there is the problem of sending messages; the
rover will be on the far side of the Moon, and it
would be hard to send signals. Michael Brown, a
certified observational astronomer from Monash
University, stated that they could send up a satellite
to orbit the Moon and receive messages from the
spacecraft on the dark side. Then the satellite
would send the messages from the rover back to
Earth and vice versa.
According to Chinese reports, they plan on
building another space-station-like structure for
military use. This structure, called a Permanent
Orbiting Station, will be used for an ...ambitious
military ran space program, and will eventually
send more humans to the Moon.
Do you know how to organize a space party?
You planet.
