Calcutta (seat of British power).

Telephone services were introduced in India in 1881.

Ministry of Communication ran Monopoly and all the foreign Telecommunication were
nationalized after Independence in 1947.


In 1985, Department of Telecommunications (DOT) was established.

In 1997, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) was
