Subject

Whole Life Concept Project

The topics that will be discussed today will cover several different aspects on why I would like to
pursue mechanical engineering. I believe I want to work in the design process somewhere in the
automotive industry. I want to talk to people in the industry and talk to my dad to see if this is
really something I have a passion for. I need to look into emerging areas in this industry to find
out if things really spark my interest.
I want to end up in a career that is always on the cutting edge of automotive engineering in the
technology that they employ on their cars. I aspire to be working with people who have the same
passion as I do. I want to be coming up with ideas to better help people experience their cars. I
want to build the most efficient cars that can also be as safe as possible. I have always wanted to
be part of a team that as a whole is able to create brand new technologies.
I want to have a career that I am always progressing in. Whether that is by moving up the
corporate ladder or by moving to different companies in higher positions. I will have to look into
the different positions available in the design industry and their pre-requisites. I want to start out
in my career doing internships at several different companies to see what I like and dislike. After
doing several internships and getting a degree from UNCC I will most likely get a job from one
of my internships or from a similar job. From that point I will work my way up as high as I can
over the time working at a particular company.
Wherever I end up career wise I want to be as impactful as I possibly can. I want to do things
that help people in ways that no one has ever done. Specifically in the automotive industry the
biggest impact I can make is in safety or environmental health. I want to increase safety across
all vehicles and to possibly create an emission free car.
As any Engineering job I will need a solid foundation in math and science skills. Since most
design in this day and age is done electronically, knowledge of computer drafting programs is
necessary to be successful in this field. Since I want to be in the design aspect of engineering
being creative and open-minded is extremely useful. Being able to stand up in front of board
members and speaking about a new design and writing memos will be part of daily life.
(Study.com n.d.)
In my desired field soft skills are extremely important. Being able to communicate new ideas
clearly to co-workers and fellow design team members is key. On the other end of the spectrum I
will need to be a dedicated listener. Being able to critically evaluate someone elses idea requires
empathetic listening. You must be respectful of others so you dont stunt their desire to share
thoughts. This is key because the design process is all about bouncing ideas back and forth to
strengthen the idea.
Mechanical engineering will be the major that best suits me based on my passion
for how things operate and for all things automotive. I have always wanted to be in this field
because I have been drawn to creating new technologies and designing them myself. I think

having a career in the design aspect of mechanical engineering is the perfect fit for what my
passion is.
