Entry 1: Technology to Support Communication

Introduction
It is important to have a comprehensive classroom technology because today families
have a lot things on their plate. The technology plan helps parents and students stay in touch with
the teacher at all times. Depending on each family and how they would want to be contact be the
teacher technology gives families the option and keep everything private. Depending on the
teacher and what technology plan they chose makes it easier on them. There are many websites
and applications to choose from to keep in touch with families.
Technology to Enhance Communication
Email: Using email to communicate with parents and students to stay connected. The teacher
can setup a parent and student email account that they can use for that class or school. The emails
can be sent out weekly for parents to keep them formed about what going with their child as well
as the classroom. Students will receive emails on daily basis to keep up with classroom
assignments and grades
Classroom website: Interactively designed classroom websites may also provide students
access to databases and real time data to support content learning. Classroom websites provide a
way to organize educational resources and make them widely available to students, parents and
the community. (Holcomb, L. B., Castek, J. M., & Johnson) The classroom website is a great

way for parents and students to communicate with the teacher. The classroom website allows
both parties to have access to information about the class. For the parents they will have access
to their child grades and an open line of communication to their teacher. For the students they
can access assignments, homework, and grades. This is a great tool for when a student is out sick
for health reason and still be able to keep up in class.
Social Media: Through Twitter feeds, Facebook pages, and text messages sent in multiple
languages, school staff members are giving parents instant updates, news, and information about
their children's schools. Not only that, but a number of districts are also providing parents access
to Web portals where they can see everything from their children's grades on school assignments
to their locker combinations and what they're served for lunch. (Fleming, Nora) Students will
have access to the same information as parents. This will make the students have better grades
because their parents can see them too.
Remind.com: This website is free for teachers, parents, and students. The website is also
application that all parties can download to their smart phone without giving their phone number.
Everyone information can stay private and not cross the line of personal information. This
website allow teachers to upload assignments for students to have at all times. Parents are allow
to see them as well. Teachers can communicate with parents through messaging about their child
grades or attendance.
Communication Internet Security and Safety
Internet safety is a must with it comes to parents, students, and teachers. Teachers can
explain how the internet have social predators out there to allure them away from their families
to harm them. A sexual predator experiments with various usernames and passwords to get into

a schools progress monitoring system.(Zedney & Hooper) Teachers can explain to parents how
they should set a password and block certain websites from their children for their safety. Also
parents should check the history of websites their child have visited to be on the safe side. When
it comes to social media parents should also monitor who they are friends with and contacting
them.
Concluding Paragraph
With the technology taking over the new generation it is a lot easier to stay in touch with
Parents and students. There are so many ways for teachers, parents, and students to get the job
done for them to succeed in life. By working as a team we can build a great communication
between everyone. Teachers and parents can connect through emails, face to face, or application
on their smart phones. With all the communicating the students become a better student with all
resources that are available to them.
