Congratulations for being accepted for admission into Multimedia University. As this maybe the frst time for most students to be staying away from home, I am certain, one of the matters that is on the mind of all students and parents sight now is on the accommodation. As the Senior Director of the Students Affairs Division (STAD), I feel much obliged to brief all parents and students on the custeat accommodation situation in MMU. Our sim is to make the students” transition into their new and important phase of life as smooth as possible and to ensure that the parents leave their children in MMU fecling that their children’s welfare is well taken eate of. Melaka Campus Currently the campus has four hostel blocks, two for male and two for female with the maximum capacity of 450 students only. Priority is given to students from the Foundation year, after careful selection by the Residential Unit. Those who are successful in getting places in the hostel will be informed through e- mail or telephone calls latest 7 (seven) days before the registration day. Prior to the registration, a deposit of RM400 and RM200 prepayment ate expected from the students who are offered a place at the hostel ‘This payment can be done by depositing the amount into MMU accouat with account numbe-04060003230055, at ‘CIMB banks. The bank in sip will have to be given to the Finance Division during registration. In the event that the student does not turn up for registration after accepting the hostel offer, the prepayment of RM200 will not be refunded. Those who do not receive any letter or call should segard their application as unsuecessfl and will have to stay off-campus. In view of the limited umber of on-campus accommodation, Multimedia University will be assisting students ‘who are not being offered a place in the hostel in secking off-campus housing. Our obligation includes supplying the students witha ist of addresses of prospective privately owned apartments to be rented, Students or parents «can contact the owner of the apattments and do the bookings eatliez. On the registration day, for those students who have not made any eater booking, we will provide an accommodation counter for any enquiry and arrangement of their accommodation. At the counter, the students may seck advice from the officers about the accommodation and they will make their own decision on the accommodation they prefer. Should the students wish to relocate themselves to another house or apartment after STAD has arranged for their accommodation, then this move will be atthe students’ own accord. Based on the local cost of living, the rental cost for one student ranges from RM160 to RM425 per month, depending on the number of students living in the accommodation unit and the facilites it provides, As such, students are advised to prepare an estimated RM780 to RM2355 for their accommodation needs daring registration. Normally local landlords require the student to sign a tenancy agreement immediately. Innovate Cyberjaya Campus ‘On-campus accommodations in Cyberjaya Campus currently consist of two blocks of residential colleges, 1 for ‘male and 1 for fetnale. There are 250 rooms in each block and the maximum number of students in each room is 3. The facilities provided in each toom are one single bed, one double-decker bed, 3 closets, 3 study tables, 2 book shelves, fan and networking lines, Currently, all blocks are fally occupied.
