Project Brief
Task:
Multio Entertainment and Design has been asked to design and produce a
product for their own company. The client, Trevor Elliott, has wished for
them to re-create their current logo to a much more modernised form.

Company Profile:
Multio Entertainment & Design is a multimedia company based in Brisbane.
Their core goal is to connect your business to a targeted audience across a
range of industry sectors. They provide businesses with the opportunity of
connecting with their audience, in cost effective and uniquely created
multimedia solutions. Multio reaches out to their clients to bring their ideas
to life, whatever way desired. They do not meet clients halfway, they go the
full way to ensure their customers needs are met.
-E. Roxby, 2015 (http://www.roxbymedia.com.au/RoxbyMedia_Promo_brochure.pdf)

Desired Outcomes:
Multio plans to create a logo with a single graphic, the company name and
their slogan. They hope that the final outcome will be a much more
modernised version of their previous logo by applying professional and high
quality textures and shapes. Multio hopes for the logo to be bold and
appealing to the eye at the same time by possibly using a colour or a
pattern. The logo needs to symbolise the company profile by being
unbiased to a particular form of media. The target audience needs to know
that Multio specialises in an array of industry sectors, including graphic
design, video production, web development and app development.

Target Audience:
The target audience for the task is anyone who wishes for graphic design,
i.e. small businesses, large businesses, education, government and
individuals. Multio specialises in graphic design, video production, web
development and app development, however, they are willing to branch out
even further to all clients to meet their personal preferences and needs.
The company is all about creating multimedia solutions for any individual,
so it is important to convey this in the logo.

Inputs and Outputs:

The logo is to be produced in Adobe Photoshop CS6 with the assisted use
of Microsoft Word, Google Chrome and Adobe Illustrator CS6. It is to be
5cm by 5cm with a ppi of 300, in CMYK colour mode and 16 bits. The client
wishes for the final product to be saved in original .PSD format and .TIFF
format.

Deadlines:
On the 9th of March, the logo will be submitted to the client for approval and
tips for improvements. A week later, on the 16th of March, the logo will be
re-submitted for the final opinion. There will be no further changes to the
logo after this date.

Thumbnail Sketches

Annotated Sketch

The annotated sketch (above) of the logo is coloured red as opposed to the
black speech bubble used in the thumbnail sketch. The logo design was
chosen because of its unbiased to a particular form of multimedia. To put it
simply, by using this logo, the client can believe Multio is whatever they
want. It symbolises freedom of speech through technology and media. For
the final, a pattern mask will be applied to make the logo stand out more
and make it more appealing. The text will be aligned, the corners of the
speech bubble will be rounded and a border will applied to the speech
bubble so that is can be put on any background (Black, white, etc).

Today I started producing

the logo. I first created a
blank 5cm by 5cm project,
with a ppi of 300, in CMYK
colour mode and set to 16
bits. I first made a basic
rectangle. For the rectangle,

I wanted to apply rounded

edges of equal radius to the
shape. To do this, I
downloaded a script online
and applied it. Next, I made
a triangle and morphed one
of the corners to form the
bottom of my speech
bubble.

The next step in producing

the logo is to add the text
on top of the speech

bubble. The Heading and

sub-heading are to both be
done in impact font. The
heading will be in size 34
font and the sub-heading
will have size 9.45 font. To
make resizing easier and
neater, the rectangle and
the triangle of the speech
bubble will be merged
together.

Rather than having a plain

coloured background for the
speech bubble, I applied a
clipping mask, using a

online. To enlarge the
outline around the speech
bubble, I increased the
stroke width to 8 point. To
complete the logo, I
changed the colour of the
text to black.

Contexts:
There were multiple factors which have impacted the product design. The
company profile states that Multio reaches out in all forms of multimedia

design. It was important to remember to display this in the logo. For

example, if the logo were to contain a graphic of a camera, the target
audience may think that Multio only works with photography and film. Since
the target audience was so broad, the logo has to try and attract as many
potential clients as it can. This includes looking professional and fun at the
same time. Working in a classroom environment highly benefited the
design process. Not only could I ask my peers for help, but I could also get
their opinions on the logo. Another benefit was having the teacher as the
project manager. I was able to constantly get his opinion and also ask him
for assistance during the design process.

Inputs:
For the development process, the equipment and resource quality needed
to be of a high standard to achieve a professional look in the final product.
The software used (Photoshop CS6) was very suitable for the task. The
laptop used for the task, worked very well even though its hardware is not
of a very high standard. This is because the logo was not very complex.
There was plenty of time allocated for the task and the development was
not rushed. The resources supplied positively impacted the project. The
teacher and students assisted with the production by expressing their
opinions and offering their suggestions as the logo went from a thumbnail
to the final product. The task sheet for the task was also very specific and
thorough in explaining the specifications and the time allocated. There were
no resource issues encountered throughout the project.

Processes:
The planning phase is very useful. The planning phase allows the company
to look at what needs to be achieved so that the logo appeals to the target
audience and reflects the companys purpose and background. I managed
to follow the planning in the project brief by creating a modernised logo that
appeals to all target audiences. There were no changes applied to the
original planning. Since I was uncertain of what I wanted to do for the final

product, the development process was very effective. I was able to look at
all of my thumbnails and decide which features I liked of each one and
merge them together. Once I had a set idea of what I wanted the logo to
look like, the efficiency of the process began to deteriorate because it was
important not to add too much detail in the annotated sketch. At one stage,
I added too much detail in my annotated sketch and therefore only had
minor changes for the final logo. To fix this, I had to go back and remove
some of the detail in the sketch, which wasted time.

Product:
For the task I used a wide variety of features and skills, such as creating
new projects, changing properties, creating shapes, morphing shapes,
downloading, installing and using scripts, creating text, editing text,
changing fonts, creating, selecting and merging layers, applying clipping
masks, increasing stroke width, and saving images to different formats. The
final logo met the original aims very well. The main aim was to give the logo
a modernised and technical look by using bold shapes and high-quality
textures. I am very satisfied with the final product as it has great use of
shape and typography. There is a strong use of alignment with the text
being centred and the top line lining up with the bottom line. The use of line
draws the viewers attention within the speech bubble and the pattern
creates a sense of repetition and unity by filling in the blank space between
the text and the speech bubble. By using black text on a multi-coloured
background, it stands-out and catches the viewers attention. This logo is
sure to stand-out to all target audiences as it is not biased to a particular
form of multimedia. Multio reaches out to their clients, whatever way
desired, so that their ideas can come to life. It seems necessary that their
logo should reflect that. In the future, Multios logo will change again to
maintain their persona of a modernised media company for any client. To
conclude, I believe that Multios new logo symbolises freedom of speech
through media and technology.
