Classroom Management Plan

Overall philosophy of classroom management

My philosophy is that all children deserve an education and all students learn in different
ways. It is our job as a teacher and educator to identify those ways and help students learn to the
best of their ability. My goal as an elementary teacher is to have all of my students succeed
academically and socially. I want to provide my students with fun, engaging and motivating
lessons and a safe classroom setting. Another goal as an elementary teacher is to provide a safe
and positive culture and climate for all students. I will provide a structured and engaged studentlearning classroom.
As far as learning in the classroom, students will be able to look to the teacher and their
peers for extra assistance. Children learn by example. A teacher is a role model to each and every
one of his or her students. If students see teachers complete an inappropriate act, students will
think its okay to act the same way. When I was younger, my first grade teacher was my role
model and watching her act appropriately while connections with every student helped me to
decide on the type of teacher I want to be.
I believe all students should have a fair and appropriate education. In my classroom all
students will be treated fairly and equally. If students are struggling with a concept I will
continue teaching and re-teaching that concept until all students have mastered the concept and
are ready to move on. Students will be completing assessments as needed to show their
understanding of the topic.
Specific classroom practices planned to create a productive and positive classroom
Having classroom practices to create a productive and positive classroom is important.
Each day, students will enter the classroom respectfully, and participate in classroom activities.
Students will enter the classroom quietly and get out classroom materials for the morning lesson
as soon as they come in. After the students get out their correct materials they will either have
their eyes to the front of the classroom or they will lay their heads down on their desks to show
me they are ready. Before leaving the classroom at the end of the day, students will clean up their
workspace, and the areas they have been working in most recently. Students will make sure they
have their homework assignments in the take home side of their folder, and their work they
have completed in their stay at home side of the folder. I will make sure the school and the
district approve all of my classroom practices before anything is set in place.
Use of classroom rules and routines

Rules in the classroom are going to be the backbone to how the students will behave in
the classroom. Creating rules right away is a crucial part in managing an effective classroom.
Rules students are taught and practice can be beneficial not only to students, but to teachers as
well. Having your classroom rules posted to where students can see them at all times is
important. Seeing these rules will remind the students how to behave appropriately not only
when they are in the classroom but also at recess, or in music class or gym class. In my
classroom, I will be establishing the rules and routines within the first two days of class. Setting
rules during the first two days can have a huge impact on how the rest of the school year will go.
If students see you are there to teach them and not fool around they will more than likely follow
your lead and be there to learn. When creating classroom rules, I will have students create the
classroom expectations with me as a group.
One rule I will practice with my students is making sure they are respectful to
themselves, their classmates and their instructors. In my classroom, I want everyone to
participate and have fun with class. I dont want anyone being disrespectful to the point where
students are afraid to share their thoughts and ideas with their peers. Other rules and routines I
would have my students practice is raising their hand to speak, work quietly, and to listen when
someone is speaking. A few other rules I will implement in my classroom are students will be on
time; turn in assignments on correct due dates, and participate in-group work and classroom
discussions.
Another classroom routine I will use in my classroom is a line leader and a caboose. At
the beginning of the year, students will practice lining up quietly at the door according to my
dismissal instructions. The line leader will be at the front of the line while the caboose is at the
end. Students will then follow the teacher quietly to their next destination.
Listed below are a few more rules and routines my students will participate in and follow:
Sharpening Pencils - Students will have time each morning to sharpen pencils for the day. They
should make sure they have 2 sharpened pencils in their desk. If the student does need to sharpen
a pencil throughout the day, they may do so with permission.
Handing in Papers - Once a student is finished with a homework assignment, or needs to
complete an assignment. Students need to place it in the to be corrected bin or the to be
finished bin. This gives students opportunities to finish work during free time and not having
homework.
Attendance and Lunch Count - Once a student arrives at school they should put their
backpacks away in the designated space. Until the bell rings, the student may have free time
at their desks, but they must be sitting quietly with their reading book. Once the bell rings, they
should all be in their desk, which makes it easy for a quick attendance check for the teacher. The

teacher will then ask the students what they would like to eat for lunch; students will raise their
hands according to lunch options. Before going to lunch, I will give students their appropriate
lunch cards to take in the lunch line.
Student involvement
Students are required to participate throughout the day in the classroom. When we are in
a large group setting students will be involved in the discussion as well as following along in the
activities we are doing. Students will be getting participation points when they are in classroom.
Each day student will be given responsibilities in the classroom to complete throughout the day.
When students finish they will be given a reward for completing their responsibilities. When
teachers are getting student involvement, they need to remember students to be engaged and
active in the lessons. Students will be completing hands-on activities throughout the day to keep
them engaged, excited, and ready to learn each day.
Parent Involvement
I believe parent involvement is critical to a students overall education. Not only does the
teacher play a huge role in preparing the student for the future and providing the students with
accurate and useful knowledge to learn and build off from, the parents play a huge role in that
system as well. In my classroom I will encourage parent volunteers to come in and work with the
students and help throughout the day. I will make a special effort to involve the parents in big
projects. I want to make them feel as included as possible. When I do not have parents in my
classroom, I will be e-mailing the parents periodically with outstanding and not so outstanding
progress their children are completing. I will be using an e-mail system to provide positive
feedback to the parents. I would also ask that parents notify me when they want to stop into the
classroom, that way I can make time for the parents and not take instruction time out of my
students school days. I am willing to work with the parents and students to find out what is
working well at home and applying it to the classroom. I am also willing to send information
home as to what is working well or not so well in the classroom. In order to develop a strong
relationship with the parents I plan to be respectful, positive, and an active listener, and I am
privileged to be working with them to better their childs education.
Interfacing with building and district policy and procedures
School buildings and districts have their own set of policies and procedures in order for all
teachers to be on the same page as each other. Having these set policies and procedures helps
teachers to have consistency amongst their classrooms. We all want to work together as a team
not against one another. As a whole, schools want to make sure their students are getting the best
education they can receive. As they always say, you need to become a life long learner. Every
day teachers have the opportunity to learn something new, we are students learning from other

teachers, and from our students. This is why schools set policies and procedures, that way we can
learn from our peers, and find our own way of making things work. Issues I find or may have
should be brought up with the principal and the ones who create the policies and procedures. I
may struggle with something and another teacher may not. As a future educator it is my job to
make sure I have everything I need to teach my class. I am responsible for my actions when I am
in front of my classroom and it is my job to stay on top of things, be organized, and to follow all
rules, policies, and procedures.
Discipline Plan
Discipline, I would say is one of the hardest things to do in a classroom. No two students
are the same, as teachers we need to remember students have their own problems and some
issues are not as serious as others. When students are having minor behavior issues I will simply
ask the students to stop because they are distracting their peers or me. For minor behavior issues
I will also have nonverbal cues such as hand cues or walking towards the misbehaving students
desk and lightly place my hand on their shoulders. This way the students know to get back on
task without calling them out in front of their peers and embarrassing them. If the students
continue to be a distraction, I will move them to an area of the room where they are not
distracting anyone.
If the students have a major behavior issue, I will simply tell the students, their behavior
is distracting and they will have to talk to me after class, this will give the students time to think
about their actions and from their the student and teacher will come up with a consequence for
their actions. Students who continue to act out will be removed from the classroom until they are
ready to come back and participate quietly. If I notice the students are becoming restless and
starting to become disruptive and a distraction, I will give them a brain break. An example of a
brain break could be me saying, I have a few copies in the office, can you go and pick them
up for me? Then as the teacher, I will call down to the office and let them know I am sending a
student down to help the student get back on task and focus.
