Higher Education Opportunity Act

2008
Author Ernst O Van Bergeijk wrote an article which headline was
Higher Education Opportunity act of 2008 makes it possible for military
families to afford post-secondary education for not only for their neurotypical
sons and daughters, but their children with dis ability as well. In this article
author tried to be describe that how this act will help military family to give
their sons and daughter proper education. He mentioned that after WW ll,
how The Serviceman Readjustment bill 1944 helped to enlighten the whole
society. This bill turned into a biggest source of college scholarship that time
which provided the nation 45000 engineers, 240000 accountants, 9100
scientist, and 66000 doctors according to Veteran Affair Secretary Eric K.
Shinseki(2009). Those millions of veteran college student gave the nation
vital advantage in post-world war time. That era became the most thriving
time in the history of this great nation, because this nation was being led by
its bravest heroes. This bill provides most comprehensive package to the
military service man since G.I bill. In the 1944 bills allow only veteran for this
benefit where in the opportunity act 2008 allowed every personal from

different branch of military including National Guard and coast guard get
benefit from this bill. This act also allow to transfer unused benefit from the
military service members to his family, so that they also can get their higher
education too. Any military spouses can use this benefit

immediately. Their children may use the benefit only after the individual
making the transfer has completed at least 10 years in the service in arm
force. This act also allow the student with intellectual disability to attend on
the job training, apprenticeships, and non- college degree programs if they
are not qualified to attend college. It may also use in conjunction with a new
U.S Department of Education initiative for intellectually disable student.
This is the all author told in his article about the Higher Education
Opportunity Act, and it was not wrong at all. This bill is really a great
contribution of early Obama administration. It is passed by 110th congress
where Democrats have their majority in both chamber of house. Though his
article about the act is not wrong, but it gives us only a partial view of this
act. His article become a vague document for the people who have no
knowledge. It totally seems like an act for military personal benefit, but it is
not work like this. The main purpose of the act is giving a chance of
achieving higher education to economically unstable student, what is
missing in the author article. This act also have special provision for Native

American, Hawaiian islander, immigrant Asian, disable, and military personal

what the author already mentioned. It designed to help student for not
getting sink in the student loan. One of the best feature of this bill is that it
ensure the intellectually disable student can get at least minimum education
and training who doesnt qualify for any college. In the author in his article
mention this feature like that it is only for military personal and their family
member.
So, it is true that Higher Education Opportunity Act has some special
feature for military personal and for their family, but actually this act is not
bound with military personal.

The main reason of this act is creating equal opportunity for all the student
who doesnt has these things, what this articles author totally forgot to
appear in his article. So, this article is not hold the real feature of this act.
