SITE PLAN
The location selected for the public sculpture is one of Coral Bay's central beaches. The
landscape of the area is open and relatively flat - a serene coastal environment. The water
is crystal clear, blue, and calm which provides a dynamic placement for the sculpture.
People, especially tourists spending time at this beach, can take photographs with the glass
whaleshark that complements the surrounding water, sit on the 'rings' and swim in the
small pools they create. The 'rings' provide a level of safety for people as they can walk up
to the sculpture instead of swimming. A shaded carpark area is situated behind the left hill
for convenience.

SCULPTURE ELEVATIONS

9.7 m

The slanted concrete base elevates the glass whaleshark off the surface of the water whilst allowing easy access from a shallower level for adults and children to interact with it. The glass and water together could be
slippery and people may climb, however the distance to and depth of its surrounding water help to remove risk
of injury. In order to be kept stable with the sands and ocean movements, steel bars imbedded in the concrete
base project into the sand - also lifting the level base to allow water to flow into the inner area and prevent
tilting backwards with the sand slope.

SITE SECTIONS
The beach is somewhat privatised and sheltered by the dunes and the increased slope severity to the east and
west causing the water level to meet the dune bases. The dune vegetation is native and naturally existing, staying consistent to the themes of native, conservation, and locality that the sculpture represents. The sculpture has
been designed to represent the ecosystem and culture of the area. Coral bay is a coastal sanctuary that welcomes
tourism to experience the serenity and natural wonders. The sculpture symbolises this welcoming by its design for
interaction, and reflects the beauty of the ecosystem with its reflection of the light and water and the form of
Coral Bay's most marvelled creature.

RENDERED PERSPECTIVES
These three perspectives demonstrate the materiality of the work and how it fits in harmony
with the site through fluid shapes and the reflectivity of the glass. Also visible is the sheltered nature of the beach within its topography, and how changes in the water movements
such as tides vary the spaces around the sculpture.
