POST-TEACHING Reflections
Today I taught 1st and 2nd periods. These two periods are totally different in how they learn. First
period is a pretty good class. They talk a bit but they will do what you ask them too. Second
period, does not do as well. They have an aide that comes in and helps with the students in that
class. She has certain students she is in there to help, but she will help whoever needs it.
First period- I was kind of nervous because I have not taught this group of students yet. I started
the lesson with their current event they do every day with their classroom teacher. They do this
on their iPads. Then I had them either get out paper to do notes or they could use their iPads to
take notes. I told them that if I caught them not taking notes and doing something else on their
iPads, I would make them up it away and take note the old fashion way. I started the lesson by
putting categories on the board that were in the section and having the students guess what they
think was in each category. Such as: What clothing did they were or what did they eat. Then as
we started going through the section, we compared the list the students made to what the book
said. If they were wrong, we discussed why their answer was not in the book. I think the lesson
went very well. I was happy that the students did what I asked them to do and that they
responded well when I questioned them. Then at the end of class, I gave them a crossword puzzle
to do with the key words from the section and their classroom teacher said they if they did my
work, they did not have to do the section work he sent them to do. What frustrated me was that
the teacher kept interrupting me to tell stories or to explain something that I had not go to yet. I
was difficult because would get the students off topic. But I was able to pull them back in.

Second period- I was not nervous because I have already taught this group of students with a
EDUC 426 lesson, Im with the same teacher for both placements this semester. This class went
pretty much the same way first period did but they were way more talkative and I had to slow
down my teaching. This class needs the information repeated and repeated multiple times. It did
not frustrate me to do this, but what did frustrate me was the same thing that happened in first
period. The teacher interrupting me was not what I needed. This really got the students of task
and they were more difficult to get back on task then first period was.
Overall- I think the lesson went pretty well overall. I think if I could change anything, I would
have done a guided notes page. I think this would have helped the students during their note
taking, especially second period. I think that if the teacher would not have interrupted me, it
would have gone better but I think I did the best for what I had to go thought with him. The
students overall were pretty good and the aide that was in there during second period is
awesome.
Data Based Decision Making
I used a crossword puzzle as a tool to help them remember their important key terms and
vocabulary words.
