Overall, this semester so far has been a bit of a roller coaster. The transition from high school to a community college has not been too extreme, due to the fact that I am still living at home; however, my first semester of college has still had it’s ups and downs. Ultimately, I would say that this semester has been rather successful. One of my greatest feats, in my opinion, would be getting an A on my first math test. I was really nervous because I have never been great at math, especially on tests. Therefore, I was determined to try my hardest to even get a passing grade; but, to my sur- prise, I got an A. Another victory of mine this semester was my English midterm. It was an analysis essay, and although I am confident in my essay-writing skills, this assignment was still extremely

nerve-racking. Being an English major, I put much importance on my writing and my skills in writ- ing, but I was not completely confident in how well I had done on this poarticular essay. Nonetheless, when my professor entered my grade onto Canvas, it turned out I had gotten 100%. This grade was far better than what I had even dreamed of receiving. Although these were both amazing accomplishments to me, I’d say my biggest success was getting an A on my Psycholinguistics test. This is because, on my first test, I received my biggest failure- I got a D. This was wildly

disappointing to me, as I am aiming to get a 4.0 this semester. After getting such a bad grade, I did just about everything

ly as opposed to simply getting it over with, I paid more attention in class, and I studied as much as

professor was handing back our tests, until I saw the big red A on the top of the page.
Despite this semester containing more successes than failures, I am still not at a 4.0, which is
my goal. Therefore, I need to come up with strategies that I can execute henceforth as to raise my

the phone numbers of some of my classmates and plan to study with them before upcoming tests. I believe that this will help improve all of our grades, as each of us has a different input on a topic. Thinking more and in

different ways about each potential test question will help better prepare me for the exam. Second, I plan on visiting the Teaching and Learning Center more often. Even if I do not need tutoring at the time, it will still be pragmatic for me to have a quiet place to study and do homework. Often times, when I am trying to do homework at home, I will become easily distracted by noises and items around my room, thus making the time spent on homework longer than necessary. However, the Teaching and Learning Center will allow me to concentrate and completely focus on my work, helping me finish sooner. This plan of finishing work earlier will also thereupon help with my final strategy- going to sleep earlier. When I stay up late, it is usually to do homework, and my work consequently suffers as my brain is not functioning at its full potential. Also, getting more sleep will help me in being more at- tention during class and obtaining more information from lectures. Using these strategies, hopefully, I can get a 4.0 by the end of the semester, and every semester here on out.
