Study Guide for Friday November 30

1. Describe how a ball moves using vocabulary
words.
The ball will move only when an unbalanced force
is acted upon it. It will continue to move in the
direction it was hit in because of its inertia (the
tendency to resist the change in motion). The balls
speed will depend upon how much force was put
behind it when the unbalanced force hit it. Also
when the ball was hit that gave off a force, but also
the ball exerted the same force in the opposite
direction and of equal force.
2. A ball with a force of 50N and acceleration of 5
m/s2 has what mass?
M= F/a
M= 50/ 5
M = 10kg
3. A person that has a mass of 10 kg and is
walking with a force of 20N has what
acceleration?
A= F/m
A= 20/10
A= 2m/s2
4. A 6,000 kg car travels 80m/s down the highway,
what is its momentum?
P=mV
P= (6000)(80)
P= 480,000 Kg. m/s
5. Give SI units for:
a. Distance (meters)
b. Force (Newtons)
c. Momentum (kg.m/s)
d. Speed (m/s)
e. Displacement (meters)
f. Gravity (m/s2)
g. Acceleration (m/s2)
h. Weight (newtons)
i. Mass (kg)
j. Time (seconds)
6. What is distance? Draw an example.
Total length that you traveled. From point A to point
B with all the curves.
7. What is displacement? Draw an example.

Is from point A to point B in the shorest straightest

past.
8. What is the difference between vector and
scalar?
Vector has a number and direction. Scalar is only a
number.
9. What is Newtons first law of motion? Give and
example.
An object in motion will stay in motion. An object
at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an
unbalanced force.
A car will continue to move on the same path until
it hit a wall, and then it will change its motion
because the wall is the unbalanced force.
10. What is another name for Newtons first law?
Law of Inertia
11. What is Newtons second law of motion? Give
an example.
Newtons second law is F=ma
A car weighs 3000 kg and is going 75m/s2 down the
road. Its force it is applying is
12. What is Newtons third law of motion? Give an
example.
Newtons third law is for every action there is an
equal and opposite reaction.
If the car hits the wall and applies the force of 25N
then the wall will also apply the same force but in
the opposite direction. Forces are equal and
opposite pairs.
13. If the girl on the train is going 10mph East and
the girl on the ground is running 2mph East.
How fast is the
girl on the train
moving in
reference to the
girl on the
ground?
The girl on the train is
moving 8mph East because when references are
going in the same direction you substract them. If
they are going in oppsite directions you add them.
