IBM Websphere ships with Tivoli Performance Viewer to

monitor over Health of Websphere Application Server.

We can monitor the Websphere Application server performance at run time, but it is
not recommended; the recommended procedure is to capture log files and do
analysis on log files.
By default the Performance Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI) is enabled, to check this
logon to Websphere administrative console and click Monitoring and Tuning >
Performance Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI) and click server, ensure that Enable
Performance Monitoring Infrastructure is checked.
To get the statistics from the monitors choose from the following:

None

Basic

Extended

All

Custom

Expand the plus sign to see the statistics to capture.

Choose Extended and click apply to save.

Click Monitoring and Tuning, Performance viewer and Current activity.

Select the server name and click start monitoring, for live session (not
recommended)
Click the server name, and from the next screen select start logging.

If the Applications are being accessed at the time of logging the logs will be written
for performance monitoring.
After the logs are build click stop logging.
To view the logs click View Logs from Monitoring and Tuning, Performance Viewer,
click browse for the logs ( the default path for logs are at <WebSphere
Installation>\AppServer\profiles\AppSrv01\logs\tpv) the logs files are in .xml format

while logging is on and are zipped when the logging is turned off. Select the
appropriate log file and click View Log.
When the log data is populated click Advisor, the advisor can advice for tuning the
server and also suggests for configuration parameters.

Click the message of the advice for more details about the advice and action to be
