Alba s system is an electrically islanded system, not connected to the external

grid. Alba s system has a low rotational inertia, a potential for very high load
throw-offs (of up to 800 MW), and runs without spinning reserve to cover
generation losses. The Power Stations at Alba supply generation to the smelter
pot lines, which have a limited outage duration capability. As such Alba require
s
robust and secure generation, as well as rapid recovery capability, in its new
Power Station 5.
