Oct 7: THE BEST OF KENT - Illustrated talk by Kev Reynolds Kev, who is always a popular speaker at our meetings, will open the Season with a visit to Kent. Will we visit unfamiliar places so near home? Oct 21: THE HIGH INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU - Illustrated talk by Rodney Newman In 2014 Rod visited Machu Picchu, and we look forward to hearing about his challenging experiences and seeing his colourful photographs. Nov 4: RIDING IT OUT OR THE WORLD ON HER BIKE -Talk by Pam Goodall This evening's meeting will be held in the Church Pam, who is a grandmother, will amaze you when you hear about her adventures and the people she met around the world - all on HER BICYCLE. Pam will be bringing copies of her books for sale. Nov 18: ARTS & CRAFTS HOUSES & GARDENS - Illustrated talk by Paul Atterbury Paul, who appears on the Antiques Roadshow, is our celebrity speaker for this season, and we look forward to another of his excellent illustrated talks. Dec 2: THE CRYSTAL PALACE AT WAR - Illustrated talk by Barry McKay Barry, of the Crystal Palace Museum, has especially prepared this talk to commemorate the Crystal Palace's involvement in the Crimean, Boer, First and Second World Wars. Dec 16: THE CROYDON CITADEL SALVATION ARMY BAND - Conductor Ian Parkhouse This year the Salvation Army celebrates 150 years of its Ministry. We will have the opportunity to join in some of the carols during the festive concert. Jan 6, 2016: THE MEDITERRANEAN - Illustrated talk by Colin Jones Colin opens the winter season with more of his exotic wildflower photography, this time from the Mediterranean. Jan 20: THE BIZARRE WORLD OF THE KIMS IN NORTH KOREA - Illustrated talk by Nicholas Bennett Nicholas's first talk to our Society includes his adventures to a very unusual holiday destination. In spite of being on an escorted trip to North Korea he was still able to take many undercover shots which he will show along with the official photos. It is a fascinating talk about a country and its little known rulers. Feb 3: HOW TO BE BETTER OFF IN A RECESSION WITHOUT HAVING TO CUT BACK - talk by Gordon Gillett We welcome a new speaker tonight and it will be interesting to discover if Gordon's amazing illustrated talk will include any of our favourite tips from Grandma's war-time survival ideas. Feb 17: THE WORK OF THE DIAMOND RIDING CENTRE - Illustrated talk by a Volunteer Our Members Charity Evening speaker will explain how young people with special needs can reap great benefits from riding horses at the Diamond Riding Centre which relies on many volunteers to staff this local charity. Mar 2: NORTHERN CYPRUS - Illustrated talk by Ken and Jeanne Sims At this evening's meeting Ken and Jeanne Sims (members of the Society) will be transporting us on their journey to Northern Cyprus aided by their excellent photos and in-depth research of the area visited. Mar 16: YOU THE JURY - Talk by Peter Thompson, followed by our AGM. Peter concludes this year's lectures when he gives an informative but light-hearted talk as seen through his eyes as a Barrister and Solicitor. Will he divulge any secrets of how our Courts of Justice are run? Meetings are held at Sanderstead Reformed Church Hall, Sanderstead Hill, at 8pm followed at 9.30pm by coffee and an opportunity to meet the speakers. You may join the Society at a meeting or by sending your name, address and subscription (adults 14, under 18s 7) to the Treasurer, who will post your Membership card to you. Visitors are welcome on payment of 3 per evening, young people 1.50.
