surrounded by beds’ of flowers. Dr. Chaudhuri
sometimes gave lectures, showed them slides
regarding pollution and explained them the very
essence of the subjects. Sometimes he himself worked
with them. Every body was serious in his work. Tused
to cook for them with the help of a boy and out driver.
This was my routine work at the beginning of the
formation of the CPCB. After lunch thei work started
again and continued to late at night. A typist, a peon
and a driver were present over there whole day and
night. Most of the time our house remained filled up
with people from the hills. Many of them are still
workingat CPCB. After3 years, office of the CPCB was
shifted to the Nehru Place. We shifted to a house at
Kailash Colony. Intensity and diversity of work
increased to a great extent. Now, an urgent need was
felt to build a house for the CPCB. The officials were
searching for land and found a land at Noida at East
Arjun Nagar. Dr. Nilay Chaudhuri and G.D. Agarwal
‘wenttofinalize the land. Itooaccompanied them. Side

His curriculum vitae prepared by himself are provided at

This is the short story how Dr. Chaudhuri
contributed in spreading ideas of pollution and their
control aspects and forming regulatory authorities all
over India. Now every cross-section of scientists,
‘engineers, doctors, men of other fields and subjects and
even common people are aware of the term
environment. Now-a-days, tremendous work is going
on to advance the subject all over the world. Thope our
next generation will be able to survive in a pollution-free
environment. [ feel proud of my husband's contribution
in this regard. always remember him and convey my
regards to him and pray to God, may his departed soul
rest in peace. I am also grateful to the late Prime
Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who entrusted
him with this serious and responsible assignment and
