the static-electricity generator? You know, the metal ball that when you touch it your hair stands straight out? And if you move your hand close to another object that’s ‘grounded’ you can make sparks fly from your fingertips. OK…so you expect me to turn this into a spiritual analogy, right? The pressures on, so I’ll take a shot at it. This week I was reminded of Psalm 139. This Psalm so powerfully anchors our understanding that God knew us before we were ever conceived and He continues to know us better than we know ourselves. But being connected to Him is not the only thing necessary to transmit His power. The Psalm ends with a qualifier. Psalm 139: 23-24 helps me understand that His power through me is not just based on being in contact with Him but upon the condition of my heart.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
