Introduction Using this Book Key Terms

Briefly define and identify 1 application idea you have for your RED 414 Clinical.

The application that I want to help set up expectations for the school year
and what are expected of them when they are transitioning or moving
around the school. Kindergarteners are going to need a lot of
coaching/examples/reminders in order to keep constancy in the
classroom.
First Day of School
Goals & Overview for All Grades
Briefly, What does the 1st Day of School Look Like for:
o Kindergarten, First & Second Grade
o Third & Fourth Grade
o Fifth & Sixth Grade
o First day of the classroom viewing; covering the walls, but allow it to be able to
have the students fill them in and also preparing the parents. Inviting them to
meet the teacher and making contact for any comments that they might have.
o Kindergarten- Second: Using tools over and over again that allows them to get
the idea and use of them. But also give them positive feedback and showing
them what is the correct and incorrect way of some behaviors.
o Third and Fourth: The objective of the day is to get students familiar with
common procedures that the students will encounter daily and allow them to
explore the school. Common procedures in the classroom would allow for the
students to quickly get a hint of the expectations for the upcoming school year.
o Fifth and Sixth: Students have been through this multiple times and they can
now have a sense of knowledge about what is going on. So the same schedule
would be given to these grades, but students will have more freedom during

When should you fully dive

into a morning meeting?
Should breaks be given at
morning and afternoon or
depend on the class?

Appendix A-D
Choose 1 idea from EACH of these Appendices and briefly describe how you
might use it.
Appendix A:
o Closing Circle: I would use it at the end of the day for students to share shortly
about their day and if anything was special or stuck out to them. It would also
give me a chance to connect with the students one more time before they leave
and establish a connection with them during the first part of the year.

o Alphabet Aerobics: This would allow time for the students to get to know the
letters and order of the alphabet that they might not be known before they
enter. So doing a letter at a time to begin with and then linking some together.
After they have a feeling for it, we can do the whole song and have the class
know the alphabet.
Appendix C:
o Reading Aloud: Allows students to take a break and listen to how words are
supposed to be sounding and then have them try and read. Also allows them to
listen to different voices and imagine the pictures in their head if they want to.
Appendix D:
o Guest Teacher: Setting up plans for an emergency or planning out ideas for a
scheduled day will allow the guest teacher for a successful day. But possible
having a student on standby for any questions the day of isnt a bad idea. But it
would depend on the grade level.
