At this flow the frictional pressure drop in the line is 20 psi. The total pressure drop available across the valve and line is 25 psi, independent of flow and the specific gravity of the liquid is 0.9. Calculate i) The valve capacity factor, C, for 100% overcapacity. (4 marks) ii) Flow through the valve when it is fully opened. (4 marks) iii) The gain through the valve at design flow (4 marks) iv) The rangeability of the valve, (4 marks) b) Consider proportional-only control of the stirred-tank heater control system in Figure 3. The temperature is measured by highly accurate thermometer. The temperature transmitter has a span of 70°C. The controller has a gain of 5. A change in Voltage from 15 to 30 volts causes’ temperature, T to change from 55 to 70°C and the time constant is 12 min. Possible disturbance in this temperature control is changes in inlet temperature, T,, The dynamic characteristics that relate the inlet temperature to the temperature in the tank are; gain = 2.4, time constant = 5 min and time delay = 2 min. A fuel gas is bumed to provide heat to the liquid feed stream. With an aid of Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID), design and summarize the application of product temperature/fuel flow cascade control system for the process shown in Fig. 5. Let the flow loop becomes the inner loop. Then, propose block diagram for this process with cascade control system and reduce into canonical form.
