Dissertation
Multitasking in the Classroom: Motivations and Norms of Distracted Learning: Exploring
motivations and perceived accepted normative behaviors surrounding distractive multitasking in
learning environments. Results from quantitative studies will yield recommendations for
improving engagement within learning environments. Special emphasis will be given to
comparisons of traditional in-person and online learning environments.

Created engaging lectures, activities, and assessments appropriate for upper-level course
with the goals of helping students to understand pertinent theories and applications of
judgment and decision making.

2013.
Implemented an active learning approach using case studies and activities to assist students
in learning theories of Organizational Communication and applying these theories to real

Designed the course to translate from quarters to a truncated summer semester. Created

Lectured, created and administered assignments, quizzes and tests. Worked with other
instructors for this course to create a test bank and met regularly to discuss best practices.

Worked with supervising professor on transitioning the course from quarters to semesters.

experience with social science research methodology and statistical analysis.

Assisted with first ever online course for the School of Communication. Helped to create
Question Library in learning management system and set up online exam format for both
in-class and online students. Assisting with implementation of Mobius SLIP program to
improve student engagement and feedback for Spring 2015 session. Currently assessing
online section for compliance with Quality Matters online course rubric.

Completed all coursework to attain the GIS in College Teaching. Coursework included
departmental mentorships and classes through Education Policy and Leadership and
Education Technology. Course work emphasized course design, online education and adult
learning theory.

Grant Committee
Paired with Kristie Sigler to write and administer UCAT Seed Grant. School of
Communication was awarded $10,000 grant for graduate teaching development for 20132014 school year based on application. Developed online training modules for incoming
Communication GTAs, coordinated teaching development events, and conducted needs
assessments for School of Communication GTA program. Implementing GTA Teaching
Resources web page and continued development and assessment of the orientation.
Contributor, Dynamics of Persuasion, Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group), 2013.

Worked with the publisher and author to create supplemental materials to be included in
the updated edition of the instructors manual. Found open source videos for each chapter
and wrote 3-4 discussion questions relating to chapter materials and the video for
instructors to use in the classroom.
Course Development Assistant
Chosen by the School of Communication to be the only graduate student charged with
adapting the 1101 course to an online format. Worked with Distance and eLearning
professionals to learn new uses of University resources and develop implementation plans
for course. Successful completion of the first course delivery led to increased enrollment
for second offering.

Clinical Receptionist, OhioHealth, Columbus, OH: March 2010-December 2013.
First contact for patients prior to outpatient radiology procedures. Obtained and managed
patient registration information. Coordinated with various doctors offices and clinics to
obtain patient prescriptions and information vital to upcoming radiology procedures.
General office duties included filing both paper and electronically, mailing, reports and
maintaining the timeliness of the daily schedule for the Wilkins Imaging Center.
Business Account Manager, Cheryl & Co., Westerville, OH: Sept. 2006- Jan. 2009.
Managed over 400 buying accounts mostly ranging from $1K- $42K in yearly spending.
Handled all aspects of service for accounts including customer service, communication
with accounting and order processing. Managed assistant and seasonal assistant as part of
a team sales environment. Coordinated with staff from business gifts, merchandising, and
distribution to provide innovative and individualized gifts for customers. Analyzed data
to determine buying patterns and optimize service. Controlled communication with new
and potential customers on future gifting projects. Achieved highest percentage of goal
for any account manager in FY08. Awarded Stellar Sales Award for performance in
FY08 2nd Quarter which dictates close to 80% of the years sales.
Freelance Video Editor/Sports Intern, WBNS 1OTV, Columbus, OH: Jun.2001-Jun. 2005.
Responsible for video production in award winning news, sports and special broadcasts.
Coordinated sports intern schedules, activities and instruction. Redeveloped the sports
intern program by creating training tools, setting schedules and assigning duties
appropriate to skill level. Produced episodes of Wall to Wall Sports and regular
sportscasts. Filled in as additional non-linear editor for the news team during the switch
to the Grass Valley editing system. Continued to fill in as needed for news department
editors.

Demonstrations for graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, and alumni. Involved
coordination of lab personnel and equipment set-up. Demonstrations provided explanation
of the Mindware system and physiological measures including EEG, HRV, and skin
conductance to advance understanding of use of the measures in cognitive and
communication research.
