Write Up Proposal

In my write up I will be researching, discussing and explaining the ways in which record
labels can have an impact on an artists career (both independent and signed artists). I will
also be comparing the positives and negatives of having a record label behind you as an
artist or producer to see whether or not it is really worth being signed to a record label.
I feel this is a relevant topic to discuss as in modern times in the music industry
independent artists are starting to self-promote their music a lot more on social media such
as Twitter and Facebook and there are many distribution websites for independent artists
to sell their music (Such as Spinnup and Ditto which I use myself). This is a controversial
topic that can be widely discussed and opinions can be divided.
To carry out my research for this write up I will be listening to/watching radio and television
interviews from signed and unsigned artists in which they speak about their opinions on
the record labels and the power they have in the music industry. I will also be looking at

well as personally asking some independent artists that I know through social media their
own opinions of recording labels.

Timeline:
My research will commence straight away providing I can contact the artists I intend to.
By the 30th of December I will make sure that I have contacted the artists mentioned
above, taken information from radio interviews making sure my research is complete so I
have all the information I need for the write up.
Between the 1st and 30th of January I will make sure I have ordered my information and
have at least made a start on the write up itself.
This timeline will make sure I will be finished on time by the hand in date in February.
