Another dance season has started! We

had high hopes for our Basic classes in
September with a total of 15 new people
attending them, however it appears that only
5 have decided to continue. The Executive
would like to welcome Grace Steele &
Jerome Turner, Monica Splinter, and Tom
Morrow & Casey DeFoe to Limestone
Dancers. We also extend a warm welcome
to former square dancers, Edel & Strahan
Ellis who have joined our Round Dance
level. Some of the feedback we received
with respect to those who did not return was
I dont want to dance with another woman
and physically not able to do an evening of
dance. Of the 15 new dancers that came,
only 2 were men resulting in many Angels
dancing the left position. We did encourage
the new women to consider learning that
position from the start as it would guarantee
that they would always have a partner, since
most clubs have single women. A couple
did try but then did not return.

ALERT! -- ALL CLUB MEMBERS

Our club banner has been taken hostage!
Date & Time of Incident: Thursday October 22, 2015
between 7:30 pm & 9:00 pm.
Suspects: A group of approximately 12 dancers all
dressed in the same colours of Royal Blue & White,
known as Harborlite Square Dancers of Prescott.
Their leader made it known that the only way we can
retrieve our beloved property is if at least a square of
our dancers attend their club & retrieve our banner &
nab theirs.
Please lets all make an effort to be heros & show this
brazen bunch that we can
nap their banner as well.
Possible Incident Resolution : We may be able to
accomplish this feat at their special event on November
7, 2015.

Experienced Clothing Sale

WHAT IS ROUND
DANCING??
Round dancing is best
desceied as choreographed
ballroom
dancing
for
couples.
It is a social, noncompetitive activity, for fun.
On the dance
floor, choreography is
directed verbally by a round
dance cuer,
enabling all couples on the floor to dance the
same steps at the same time. This cuer
guides the dancers through the figures in each
routine, thereby eliminating the need to
memorize, and making it challenging for the
mind as well as the body. There is no prize for
being perfect dance for the fun of it! If you
make a mistake the round dance police will not
get you.

New dancers include those who have never

danced before in their lives, dancers
who have done other dancing and people of
all ages. Round dances and round dance
clubs have a well-defined system of
identifying
the skill level needed for
particular dances, so each dancer can find
their own comfort zone.
Round dancing is good exercise and provides a
relatively inexpensive evening's entertainment.
Round Dancers tend to beextre3mely friendly,
sociable, and cery helpful people. So why not
try something new. It's fun, healthy, and
relatively inexpensive.

Page

The dancer learns the routines as well as

the names of all the dance steps in each
rhythm so that when the music is played the
couple can follow the cues that are spoken
on the microphone by the Cuer, just in time to
prompt the next step to be danced. It is this
aspect that makes Round Dancing especially
unique. It is also challenging for the mind as
well as the body and a joy to behold as every
couple on the floor dances each routine in
unison.

The music used is pretty much the same as

that used in regular ballroom dancing.
Rhythms
include
Waltz, Foxtrot,
Cha
Cha,
Rumba,
Jive, Twostep,
West
Coast Swing, Tango, and several others.
While ballroom dancing is freestyle, in
round dancing each piece of music has
a specific routine written for it!
Round
Dancers learn from day 1 to associate each
foot pattern with a figure name. This makes it
easier to teach future routines since the
dancer has a repertoire of figures at their
fingertips (okay foottips).

A good time was had by all at our
Hallowe'en dance on October 27.There
were devilish devils, wicked witches, cute
creatures, intrepid damsels and oh!, what
I could only figure was the grim reaper on
steroids. In a difficult decision, the
judges, Vera
Mason,
Muriel
Brough &
Dave
Hutchinson,

Christmas Dinner and Dance

See attached poster

Yes the location & the caterer, Diana
Lloyd from the Bath area, are the same as
last year, so what might you ask will be
different.

Remember the year that Dave appeared

as a half man- half woman and called a
tip that most of us had trouble dancing to
because we were laughing so hard? .. and
then the pirate with crew that just wanted
to dance. I can't imagine what Dave and
his mother are planning for this year...!!!
Susan is already getting the rounds
working on dances to highlight different
styles to captivate the audience.

We, the executive, caller and cuer, are

doing our best to provide you with a good
time. Please join us for an evening of fun,
merriment, good food (including glutenfree) and a chance to meet and get to
know people from all levels of this club.
Your attendance will help to make this
event another success.\

Dennis and Corliss Piasetzki won for Best

Couple as the King and Queen of Hearts.
The evening began with Susan & Doug
Connors helping us to show the rhythm
and grace of Round Dancing by cueing a
selection of two steps, waltzes and
rhumbas. Dave Hutchinson did a great job
of making the basic tips fun for new and
experienced dancers alike. He also kept us
hopping with fast moving
Mainstream, Plus and
Advanced tips and Laird Green
called an interesting Plus tip.
On behalf of all dancers, I want to
express our appreciation to Susan & Doug,
Dave & Laird for making this a fun
evening for everyone. Thanks also to all
who brought food and helped to set up
and decorate. We had a good turnout, a
great time and I am looking forward to
next years Hallowe'en dance.

Well....As the price of food has increased

(as all of us know from our own grocery
bills) and the cost of the facility is a bit
higher, we at the executive have struggled
to decide on a price to charge and have
had to increase the ticket cost to cover our
expenses .... but the entertainment is
always different!

Wow! I cant believe that it was

almost a year ago when John and I
attended our first real dance; the
Mississippi Squares Halfway Dance.
We travelled on a bus arranged by the
club, my crinoline, skirt, pettipants
and our shoes safely stowed in a bag.
We packed a light supper and snacks
to eat on route. The anticipation and
excitement of our fellow travellers was
contagious. We could not believe how
quickly the time passed and before we
knew it, we had arrived. We were
given a warm welcome, shown where
to put our coats and get changed and
directed to a room for basic dancers.
Basic dancers from many different
clubs filled the room. John and I hoped
our nervousness would not show.
Would we remember what Bob had
taught us? We soon forgot our jitters
as we formed squares with new friends
and old and started to dance. We had
been told that we would know most of
the calls and for the most part that was
true. If we were unsure of a call, we
had lots of help. Everyone was so
supportive. If we needed a partner we
simply raised our hand and one was
found for us. We had the opportunity
to dance to several different callers
and to go to the other rooms to
observe the more experienced
dancers. What an amazing evening.
We danced the night away. I was glad
that I had worn a crinoline and skirt as
I loved how it moved as we danced and
made me feel like a real square
dancer. The evening ended with door
prizes and a delicious meal. All in all it

Our First Halfway Dance

was a time of fun, friendship and skill

building. We came home with a new
found confidence and an
understanding of the importance that
square dancing had become in our
lives. The bus ride home went just as
fast as when we came. Everyone talked
and talked, told jokes and laughed and
shared snacks. Before we knew it we
were home. We could not wait for our
next lesson. I hope to see our Basic
Dancers at this years Halfway Dance.
It is an experience you dont want to
miss!
