Luke 21:29-33
29 He told them this parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout
leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see
these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have
happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

PREPARATION NOT INFORMATION

It is human nature to want to know more, to acquire knowledge for growth, for profit, or
feelings of self-worth and importance. Some people are even caught up in getting specifics wanting to know more than they need to. Media hype and sensationalism further intensify this
longing for more information.
This is especially true of those who wish to give an exact date to the prophesied Second
Coming of the Son of Man. The self-proclaimed prophets of modern times have repeatedly
but mistakenly declared certain dates to be the end of the world and that contemporary
disasters are signs of Judgment Day. Wanting to know is not bad in itself, but what good is
it to know the day when one is not preparing for it? What good is it to acquire knowledge
when one fails to practice what he knows? No one knows Jesus Second Coming for God has
revealed it to no one.
In the Gospel, Jesus points to the lesson of the fig tree. Just as the fig tree's leaves start
sprouting when summer nears, so also do our own crosses and tribulations hold the promise
that the Kingdom of God is at hand.
It is true, Gods word is ever reliable and dependable, but we also have to do our part by
living it out. Why panic, if the Kingdom is within you?
