Genocide project- Ukraine

1. The reason for the genocide was to take out anyone that Joseph Stalin
thought was a threat to his power. Also he killed off the leaders of the Ukraine
to make it a dictatorship. Joseph came up with a plan which made farmers
give up privately owned land. The farmers were made to give up the food
grown of their old land and they had to provide the workers from Stalins plan
with food then sell the rest for money. The victims were the Soviet Union
people and the farmers who had their food take away. The aggressor was
Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin (before Stalin).
2. The duration of the genocide is from 1932 starting with Stalin ordering that
anyone that was found with any food was to be arrested or killed (even
children). The events leading up to this event was Joseph Stalin coming into
power in 1924, and also Stalin introducing the program with the agricultural
collectivization which forces the people to give up their land and their food.
This genocide ended in 1933 with the US president (Roosevelt) formally
recognizing the Soviet Union as a communist government and they denied
the entrance to the UN league.
3. The death toll of the Ukrainian genocide was about 6 million to 7 million
people. In the summer of 1933 the death toll per day was about 30,000, and
1/3 of them were children. 4 million of that total was starved to death.
4. Some of the events that greater numbers of people died in were the famine
in the summer of 1933 when about 30,000 people were being killed each day.
Another event that a lot of people were killed in was on August 7, 1932Kolhosp property decree when the death penalty was given for stealing a
grain of rice. The last event that killed a lot of people happened on January
22, 1933- the government sent people make sure that the starving farmers
didnt find any food to eat. In a 6 week period, 220,000 people died.
5. Some people were killed and also some were tortured because like I said
above if you found a piece of grain and you were caught you would be killed
for eating it. But also some people died from starvation, which in my
definition I would consider torture. Some people were so hungry that they
started eating the kids, this is torture because the kids go through pain but
also the adults who did that have to live with it for the rest of their life.
6. The aggressors saw themselves as pure. They though that they were helping
the people of Ukraine by building up their economy. They saw themselves as
justified because they were taking a little to get a lot. But in fact they took
a lot and got a little and the countries around the world though that what the
union was doing was wrong and unjustified for killed millions of people.
7. The life of the survivor were affected because they physically were affected
and they know how it feels to be so close to death. They have been through
the time when they had nothing and they kept going. They will be scarred for
life through the lack of love and ignorance the union showed the people.
8. The countries in the international community tried to give help by offering
relief to the starving farmers/people. But they refused and continued to

starve the people. Another thing that happened was the journalized tried to
get what was going on in the country but they were not allowed in.
9. Its between ethnicity and nature because the S.U. government lacked the
issue than give people food in the international. Organized by the laws
passed by government. Polarization is the S.U. and Ukrainian. Preparation
laws that aimed at the famine. Extermination was used when 81.3%
Ukrainian, 4.5%, Russians, 1.4% Jews, and 1.1% Poland. The government
denied that fact that they tried to make this event into a genocide.
