Circulatory System

1.

Circulation: Moves blood around the body bringing every cell into almost direct contact
with oxygen and nutrients with in two cells.
2. Arteries carries blood away from the heart.
Capillaries microscopic arteries cells move through in single file, this is where nutrients
and oxygen get transferred into the cells.
Veins carry blood to the heart
Valves- stop blood from flowing backward.
3. Open Systems (Snail) the heart pumps blood throughout the body through vessels, but
the fluid is drawn back through open ended pores. (Think a bath tub toy where you
squeeze the water out fast but then it slowly sucks the water back in as it inflates under
the water)
Closed System (Mammals) There is a series of vessels that branch into smaller vessels
to supply tissues with nutrients and oxygen, take away wastes and carbon dioxide in a
structured and systematic way to ensure maximum efficiency.

The Heart
Carbon Dioxide and Waste rich blood enters the heart via the Superior/Inferior Vena Cava
-> Right Atrium -> Tricuspid Valve -> Right Ventricle-> Pulmonary Valve-Pulmonary
Arteries -> Lungs for Carbon dioxide release, Oxygen intake -> Pulmonary Veins -> Left
Atrium -> Mitral Valve -> Left Ventricle -> Aortic Valve -> Aorta -> To circulate around
the body Arteries -> Capillaries-> Veins -> Heart
