NETWORK INVENTORY FOR

TELEFNICA GERMANY

Unification and convergence

of network inventory for
landline and cellphone
business lines

Context
Different legacy network inventories
O2 is a Telefnica subsidiary and the fourth
cellphone operator in Germany.
In 2011, Telefnica decided to increase
its presence in Germany through the
acquisition of Hansenet/Alice, a local
landline and broadband operator, in order
to become a truly converged operator and
strengthen its position as one of the main
telecommunications companies in the
country.

Following the acquisition, Telefnica has

two network inventory and planning
solutions in the area of OSS systems. Both
solutions are based on Xakta from the
Swedish manufacturer Aktavara.

Indra, as Telefnica's global partner of

choice, was selected to support the
German subsidiary in this initiative and
is responsible for unifying existing
management and planning processes
to create a new converged system, in
addition to performing daily platform
maintenance.

Proposed solution
Unified inventory and network planning

Indra currently manages the network

This activity is carried out in coordination

The service is provided by 15 individuals in

with daily operations. Additionally, the

project includes corrective and evolutive
maintenance, management support for
traditional TGE networks (2G, 3G and
Transmission), as well as the deployment
of LTE, the latest-generation mobile
network.

inventory and planning platform in

Hamburg and Munich.

In addition to the traditional activities

and parameters in this type of operation
(corrective and evolutive maintenance,
subject to SLAs/KPIs), the service
includes the ambitious task of unifying
existing network inventory and planning
services into a single converged solution.
This is structured as a traditional
implementation project embedded into
the service.

Benefits
Reduced operation and maintenance costs

Unifying network inventory and planning

systems will enable Telefnica Germany
to reduce its operation and maintenance
costs by creating synergies in the
company's most investment-intensive
area.

As part of the inventory unification

process, a support and deployment
platform has been prepared for the latestgeneration 4G/LTE telecommunications
networks.

Indra's experience in OSS and particularly

in the network inventory and planning
area has been fundamental for supporting
this ambitious plan and has provided
Telefnica Germany with the backing of a
global partner of Grupo Telefnica.
