Postpartum depression may occur in all women who experienced childbirth.

This may be related to the trauma, stress, medication, duration and the changes
that occurred during the pregnancy. All of these makes the mother prone to having
mixed emotions and changes in mood which may now lead to postpartum
depression (PPD). The signs of PPD may similar to the signs of common depression.
This journal is a reminder to us nurses that our duty and responsibility to all
pregnant mothers does not only start when they come into the hospital doors at the
process of labor nearing delivery rather duty begins at the early stages of
pregnancy we ensure that the mother gets the optimum care she needs. Maybe by
being there for the mother every step of the way decreases the chance of her
having PPD. Also, being there for them during labor and delivery may decrease their
anxiety than can cause risk for having postpartum depression. By providing them
with proper health teaching and coaching during labor and delivery and to develop
rapport with them to attain health locus control (HLC) to prevent postpartum
depression (PPD).
