Black Student Union (BSU): The Black Student Union is an

Whydopeoplegotocollege?Isittosatisfythedesiresoftheirparents?Isitbecause
theywanttobeacknowledgedforearningacollegedegree?Maybetheyaretryingtomake
someoneproud.IfIwasonthereceivingendofthisquestion,myanswerwouldbetohelp
people.ThewaythatIwanttohelppeoplerequiresmanyyearsofposthighschooleducation,
asIplantobeacardiothoracicsurgeon.Myoccupationwillinvolveperformingsurgeriesinthe
chestcavity:thorax,heart,andlungs.Iattributemydesiretoworkinthisfieldtomylate
grandparentsbothsufferingfrommultipleheartcomplications.Ihopetofindawaytoprevent
anotherfamilyfromfeelingthesamepainminefeltduetomygrandparentspassing.
Isupporteveryonesreasonforgoingtocollege,eventhosewhodontyethaveaplan,
becausecollegeistheperfectplaceforfiguringoutwhatthatplanis.Forme,thisgrantisso
muchmorethanmonetaryhelpitisasteppingstonetoachievingmyshortandlongterm
goals.Therearesomanyobstaclesandtribulationsthattestcollegestudentsstrengthand
abilitytokeepgoing,andmyreceptionofthisgrantwillmeanthatIhavethesupportofmy
familyandtheencouragementneededtothrive,despitetheobstacles,hereattheUniversityof
Michigan.ImatrueMichiganWolverineandthisgrantwillhelpmetobeanothervalidationof
ourmantra,thosewhostaywillbechampions.
