Welcome and Introduction
Welcome to Communication and Research Methods! We will be together for the
next three weeks, working on approaches to research, professional
communication, and building your English language abilities. Each week will
focus on a different topic: 1) Professional Communication 2) Debate and Oral
Argument 3) Research Methods and Presentation. This will be a short course,
which will require us to work intensively and efficiently. Lets get started!

Course Goals
Develop English abilities in writing, reading, and conversation.
Gain skills and resources for your research and law studies.
Communicate ideas in English to audiences, colleagues, and clients.
Evaluate information based on objective facts, verifiability, and sources.
Craft arguments and defend ideas to others in English.

Course Materials
Copies of reading materials and course documents will be provided in class, as
well as online at our class website:
http://englishandresearch.weebly.com/
Students will also sign up for free use of academic databases for personal use
and research through the Dar America library in Casablanca.

Attendance Expectations
Attending class and participating in discussion is key for you to improve at any
language, including English. Attendance will be taken at the start of class and will
be reflected in your final grade. Coming late to class by 15 minutes or more will
be recorded, and regular absences will lower your grade.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is when you claim the work of others as your own. This includes
writing done by your friends, material you take from the Internet or books, and
any unoriginal work that you have not written yourself. Plagiarism is forbidden in
this class. If you submit homework that is partially or fully plagiarized, you will
fail the assignment and risk failing this course.
