Unit Title: Solving and Graphing Equations

Name: Jacob Gonzales

Content Area: Algebra 2

Grade Level: 10th-12th

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

Understand solving equations as a process of reasoning and explain the reasoning.

[Simple radical and rational]
2. Solve simple rational and radical equations in one variable, and give examples showing how extraneous solutions may
arise.
Solve equations and inequalities in one variable.
3.1 Solve one-variable equations and inequalities involving absolute value, graphing the solutions and interpreting them in
context. CA
Big Ideas:
Learning about quadratic functions and the importance of knowing when to use it to find the x and y points.
Students will show their understanding of how parabolas work.
Students will understand the shape of the parabola and know how to come up with a vertex and slope.
Students will begin to understand how to come up with the maximum and minimum of parabolas.
Unit Goals and Objectives:

understand how to solve for the x and y points of each function.

be able to plot points on a graph by using the quadratic formula or other given formulas.
be able to use the maxima and minima to show the highest or lowest points of a parabola curve.
be show proof and relate the equation to the graph.

Unit Summary:

This math course is going to be the foundation for future math classes for all students. The goal is to cover enough material to help
prepare students for future math classes. The course will cover various theories, formulas, and definitions that will be very useful

throughout the course. Students will learn and understand how to plot points on a graph from given functions and equations. They
will also learn how plotting several points and solving for slope defines line on a graph. Student will learn how to relate the function
(or equation) to the graphs, as well.

Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level:
Brainstorm- What makes a graph and
how can we come up with points on a
graph?

Formative:
Quiz- Definitions and functions
Flashcards- Quizlet Algebra 2 Help
Scatterplot- Matching terms with its
definitions
Group discussions and working with
teams

Summative:
-Presentation- solve a polynomial
equation and explain how each point
represents the function on a graph
-Information guide-write out each step of
the process of coming up with solutions
for a graph
-Test
