Data Collection Assignment

Purpose
Leading independent lives is important to many young adults living with disabilities.
Employment as a vital element to gain economic benefits and has also been linked to positive
social outcomes such as enhanced self-esteem, improved family life, and sustained growth for
young adults with disabilities. The purpose of this research is to gather feedback on job
placement programs offered to young adults with disabilities and to identify areas of strengths
and weaknesses in the program and whether or not job placement programs are an effective
means to gaining economic benefits.
Hypothesis
As young adults with disabilities increase participation in job placement programs, then
they will receive numerous long term economic benefits.
Key Dependent and Independent Variables
Having job and long term career opportunities, economic independence, and overall
social growth are all dependent variables that are based upon whether or not a young adult with
disabilities participates in a job placement program offered in school. Along with job placement
programs, another independent variable is how extensive the job placement program is in terms
of what the program offers, how well it is organized and how many young adults with disabilities
are offered the opportunity to enroll into the program (funds available at local/district and state
levels).

Method
A random group of young adults with disabilities who are close to completion of the job

the survey will enable better planning and execution of future program(s). Collected data may
also be used to analyze risks, improve and address concerns that may affect young adults with
disabilities.

which will include multiple choice questions and narrative response questions. The survey

Survey Distribution and Collection

The survey will be distributed to young adults with disabilities who are enrolled into a
job placement program(s) and are near completion of the program. Students with disabilities
who are unable to respond to the survey due to physical and mental limitations will be allowed to
have parents/caregivers complete the survey. A due date will be assigned and the administrator
of the survey will collect from participants.
Survey Evaluation
Once survey data has been collected and compiled, the administrator will analyze the
feedback. The results will then be dissected by the areas defined above, followed by the raw
data, average score, and any narrative responses will be used to interpret the data. The hypothesis
stated can then be evaluated at that point.
