2 | P a g e THE EVALUATION PROCESS

This training course for Hospitality & Database Management is designed to

create a structural business system that is user friendly for all three properties for
Baderman Island and its customers. This training will allow employees to enhance the
tracking of guest charges, room maintenance, as well as room inventories. The training
will allow employees to develop a systematic approach that is feasible for each property.
Doing so will enable the properties to remain as separate entities, however it will bridge
the gap in how the system responds to each guest, making it a personable and
enjoyable process for the guests as well as the employees.
In an effort to develop the course and training material a needs analysis was
completed to determine whats needed for the training to be effective, for the
employees, customers, as well as the company overall. The training is extended to all
employees within the target audience of Baderman Island employees that are between
the ages of 18-45, which is composed of both male and female employees.
The program that is being introduced to Baderman employees is a program that
is going to assist the employees with becoming a lot more proficient in their day to day
operation and work habits. The program is user friendly and has a customer focus. The
employees will be able to utilize the system across the three entities that makes up
Baderman Resorts. The program has a systematic approach that allows employees to
also learn from one another. By the end of the training course the employees are
expected to establish a foundation of a efficient and proficient work environment thats
feasible to employees and customers.
In the past Baderman Resorts customers were working while on vacation. They
came to the resort and were unable to relax due to having to manually place orders,
generate requests for towels, etc. Even down to the point of employees checking
customers in to check the availability of rooms was a maual process for the employees
that often frustrated customers, and caused difficult transactions to take place and in
some cases customers felt the need to seek lodging at more established and organized
resorts. This ultimately made Baderman take a closer look at their work processes to
generate profit/income, as well as a better reputation than what most people knew of
them.

The training was also geared towards enabling the older individuals within the
company to better serve customers but to also become reassured that they are able to
function with up to date technology. In general, older people today are healthier, more
diverse, and better educated than previous generations, and many are pursuing active
lives. For example, many older adults, either out of need or by choice, remain employed
in a full- or part-time capacity; some are even pursuing new careers, and many are
engaged in volunteer work. The increase in the number of older workers requires
changes in government and organizational policies, work procedures, and educational
and training systems. The ooder generation make up a good percentage of
Badermans workforce, even to the extent of some of them knowing ow older information
can be retrieved from systems that were used years prior to the existence of the new
technology. This to will be a quality thats exposed during the training, and will allow
other employees to capitalize off of that major contribution. In order to move forward as
a company, its important that we understand the many, and great contributors to the
organization. Its been stated that, Ongoing developments in technology are also
reshaping work processes, jobs, workplaces, and the delivery of job education and
training. The introduction of automation and computer technologies into the workplace
has dramatically changed the nature of many jobs and work situations. (Technologies
for an Aging Population, nd)
The Logic Model played a major role in this evaluation process as well. The
Logic Model is being implemented to ensure that the course has a clear and defined
path and expected outcome of the training course is communicated to all employees
prior to the training course. This is to also ensure that the training is being stretched to
its maximum potential, and has enough pertinent content. The Logic Model will clearly
define the goals, objectives, Inputs, Activities, Outputs, as well as Client Outcomes. The
Evaluation Process thats outlined below will illustrate the thoroughness and
effectiveness of the training.
The data was collected over a period of time. Students were assessed during the
course as well as after the course. Therefore both formative, and summative
assessments were utilized to collect data. Formative assessments refers to a wide
variety of methods that teachers use to conduct in-process evaluations of student

comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson, unit, or

course. Formative assessments general goal is to collect detailed information that can
be used to improve instruction and student learning while its happening. What makes
an assessment formative is not the design of a test, technique, or self-evaluation, per
se, but the way it is usedi.e., to inform in-process teaching and learning
modifications. (Formative Assessments, 2013) As mentioned in the preceding
sentence summative assessments are |used to evaluate student learning, skill
acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional
periodtypically at the end of a project, unit, course, semester, program, or school
year. (summative assessments, 2014)
The instructors all were to come together at the end of the instructional period
periodically and assess what has been taught. The instructors then review the results of
various students to observe trends, and area where improvement is needed or are
considered to be more of a focus area for the instructors. The students are then spoken
with on a one one basis and environment to review their results and to also exchange
feedback to determine what if their expectations were met as a result of this course and
if they obtained a wealth of knowledge, the final question to the students was to
determine what could have made this training course a lot better then what it was.
After conducting interviews with each student post assessment, and gathering
information to take a deeper look at their teachings, the instructors were able to
determine that a hands on approach completely would better suit this type of instruction.
The Students being a mixed age group express the interest they had in the books, and
pamphlets. But, they would much rather have a more personable interaction with the
material to gain a complete, and clear understanding. On the other hand the instructors
observed in with the assessment results that the effectiveness of the computers and
new technology increased their profit as a company, helped establish and maintain the
confidence in older adults and their interaction with technology. The findings also
illustrated that the use of technology in the guest rooms as well as guest services aided
in the customers wanting to recommend the resort to others, it also illustrated that the
customers can in fact have an enjoyable vacation and allow the resort to take complete

ownership of their vacatio0n and the details from check in to check out. The training
was a great investment for both customer as well as guest over all.
