Dipankar Dey (b.

1964), a PhD in Business Management from the University of Calcutta, obtained his Masters
degree in Business Management (MBM) from the same university in 1987. His PhD dissertation was on State and
Foreign Involvement in the Development of Indian Petroleum Industry Between 1970 and 1989.
Prior to joining IBS Business School (formerly ICFAI Business School) Kolkata, in December 2002, as a faculty
member, he worked with corporate sector for over twelve years in senior positions including National Marketing
Manager and for a brief period he was associated with a leading international NGO Consumer Unity & Trust
Society (CUTS).
He is also attached to the Department of Business Management, University of Calcutta as a PhD Guide and Guest
Faculty in the area of International Marketing and Business Policy. At IBS, Dr. Dey teaches four courses namely
Economics, Branding, International Marketing and Marketing Research. His research interest is primarily
focused on global trade; environment; energy and agriculture.
Dr. Dey has participated, as delegate and resource person, in different national and international seminars
including the Conference of Parties-8 (CoP -8) of United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change
(UNFCCC); United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD); European Council for Energy
Efficient Economy (ECEEE) Summer Study 2007; European Society for Ecological Economy (ESEE
2011); and International Seminar on Environmental Regulations and Market Access, organized by OECD and
UNCTAD. He was a member of the Advisory Group (Energy) formed by Stakeholder Forum (UK) during
the Johannesburg Earth Summit 2002
Dr. Dey has authored, the country report- Energy and Sustainable Development in India, on behalf of HELIO
International, France, which was submitted in the 14 th Session of United Nations Conference on Sustainable
Development (UNCSD) held in May, 2006 at New York, where he participated as a delegate.
